I got an email from HAL this morning asking if we would like an upgrade to VA or VH for $199 per person (just two of us). No specific rooms mentioned.

We are leaving in two weeks on the Westerdam to Alaska. We have never booked without an assigned room so we thought it would be worth going with a basic inside room and see what kind of upgrade would be offered, if at all.

BTW, this is our first time with HAL but have cruised both NCL and Carnival.

Would appreciate any feedback from those of you who are HAL loyalists

If I were going to Alaska I would want a mid ship balcony. Maineac.

First of all, this an upsell, not an upgrade.

Without knowing what cabin you were in prior, it is hard to say if the price is good. But, going to an inside to a veranda is a good deal just about any time you can do it, and I don't think I would turn it down..

You have been offered a verandah - assuming you want one at a good rate, don't waste time = call them and take it or it will be gone. Inside to verandah? Just look at the regular rates. No question in my mind - I would grab it and go.

but it's totally up to you. = but if you wait to long, it will be we could have, we should have - I'm sure others will snap it up;)

It says to call between 9am-5pm Pacific Standard Time, Monday thru Friday. I am assuming that they are not open on the weekend. I will call them first thing in the morning, though.

Thanks for all the feedback. I definitely will take the offer as long as it is not on a deck underneath the deck with the pool and deck chairs. Hubby is a very light sleeper or near any other noisy areas.

Then that opens another question. Where are the noisy places? Guess I should have asked that earlier. You are probably all asleep by now unless you are on the west coast.

Inside to verandah for $199 per person is a very good deal. Hope it's still there Monday morning!

I got an email from HAL this morning asking if we would like an upgrade to VA or VH for $199 per person (just two of us). No specific rooms mentioned. There's a big difference between a VA and a VH. I would not take the upsell unless it was at least to a VE guarantee.

We were offered an upsell from a Cat J to a VA for 99$ pp we grabbed it within minutes of receiving the offer.Loved the Aft VA Balcony room ( Westerdam).Although ours was a Carribean cruise and it was great it would be twice as great in Alaska.Breathtaking scenery to be viewed

We upgraded to the VA deal from a oceanview (between lifeboats) for the May 21st cruise on the Westerdam. This is my travel partners first cruise and I think that she will like the verandah
