View Full Version : Should the Queen have visted Ireland

It has been a landmark visit with the first monarch to visit Ireland in 100 years and indeed as a Republic.

Although we are living in a period of peace across all Ireland I feel that this is a brave move which hopefully cement the peace. I don't think we will see a United Ireland for a while but with peace and visits like this I think it will be a big step forward. Bombs in Ireland and the UK will not give the what they terrorists want.

I hope that the visit turns out to be the success it should be.

I agree, I did not realize it had been that long since the king/queen had visited Ireland.

That was the first time a British monarch has visited "southern" Ireland in 100 years - that part that is now the Republic.

There have been visits to "Northern" Ireland of course - also refrerred to as the Six Counties or (erroneously) as Ulster.

Ulster is one of the four ancient provinces of Ireland (the geographical entity) with three of its modern day counties in the Republic.
