I just received an e-mail from HA stating my stateroom category has been changed from a B suite to a BQ suite on the Maasdam - I guess this is an upgrade, but not a great one as the location is not one I would of chosen because of being so close to the bow and next to the elevators. Other than the I-pod dock, doesn't really appeal as an "upgrade". I will phone my TA tomorrow, but I am wondering if I can request the room I initially chose back. Has anyone had experience with an unrequested move?

You can decline an upgrade. Don't waste any time, tho.

The cabins are the same size -- same size balcony -- in the BQ you get an Ipod docking station and a waterfall and yoga mats -- none of which i would be interested in -- and yes you are more forward than your B category.

If you had booked a specific cabin and you wish to decline -- you better have your TA do it now or you will lose your cabin.

If you had booked guarantee -- this is considered an upgrade to one of the "new" cabins and if you don't want it -- again -- your TA needs to call HAL now.

BQs (all 'spa' cabins) are non-smoking, if that matters to you.

Thanks, it would make a difference to me but I just called a rep at Holland America who told me smoking is permitted in the the BQ's. I'm hoping the rep may be wrong.

i thought i read that the spa cabins were non-smoking. i could be wrong (wouldn't be the 1st time) or maybe i was remembering another line's policy.

On Page 15 of HAL's "Know Before You Go" on their site it indiactes that NO staterooms are non-smoking.

No promises they can move you back. Any guests not happy with ANY potential upgraded room as a new assignment should request No Upgrade. Then, you know you have something you'll like.
