These boards are always a wealth of information - they make planning and anticipating one's next cruise even more fun. We will be taking our first Holland America cruise next December on the Rotterdam, and have just booked a category 'A' verandah suite. I am getting a little confused among all the different categories - and which perks go with which category. What perks can Category 'A' cruisers be looking forward to?

No perks at all with an A category cabin. Only the S and PH staterooms have the goodies. Yes, it is confusing. Why they call the veranda staterooms "suites" is beyond me. Anyhoo ... what you will have is a bit more space than in comparable cabins on other cruise lines. We occupied an A on the Rotterdam for our first HAL cruise. It was wonderful. That ship is still my favorite overall. You'll enjoy it, I'm sure.

These cabins are both port side. We've had the personalized stationary, the large fluffy towels, the mini-bar, the VCR with available videos, whirlpool tub, 4 large closets with movable shelves, refrigerator, good size veranda, robes (the better ones). It did not have the SOE upgrades when we were on, but the Zaandam did this winter. In an "S" suite we had free laundry and drycleaning, champaigne on boarding, priority boarding thru the suite line, priority tendering, invitations to suite cocktail party and suite lunch in the pinnacle, menus in the room by noon for night's dinner. Concierge service, hors d'ouerves in room, a much larger veranda with table seating for 4 plus 2 chaises, dressing room, but same size whirlpool as "A".

I've probably forgotten a few perks, but you will have the new bedding, make-up mirror as will all cabins after SOE upgrades which Rotterdam will have this spring.
She's our favorite ship, we've done 2 transatlantics on her in "A" cabins, and we just love her.
