View Full Version : 21 Days till Sail-Away (AKA My Clothes Don't Fit!)

That’s right, I waited until the absolute last minute to lose 50 lbs! I booked this cruise about a year ago and swore I would be slim and fit as I paraded around the lido deck in my new bathing suit. A year sure does fly by….
Of course I started a million and one diets between then and now but never quite got past the first couple days before I threw in the towel. Unfortunately, I am a bit heavier that I was on my cruise last summer so my cruise clothes and formal wear are quite snug and I’m no happy camper.
So, we’re looking at a three week boot camp to lose 10-15 lbs before sail-away. It’s definitely possible but will require a serious level of commitment to happen. My plan is two-a-day workouts and a fairly strict eating plan coupled with lots of water.
The good news is that I’m a teacher and this is my last week of school so I will have plenty of free time to exercise and eat healthfully.
I would love any fellow cruisers to join me on my journey! Feel free to hop on board:)

Hi, if you want to drop a dress size in 2 weeks, try the 2 bowls of cereal diet. One for breakfast, one for lunch, and maybe some steamed fish and vegetables for your evening meal, or something light like that.
Make sure the cereal isn't high in calories though. Avoid any with nuts.
I've done this before now, and tbh I can't face the 2 bowls of cereal, so have one instead at approx 10am.
Good luck x

I don't want to be a downer but losing 15lbs in just 3 weeks can be dangerous. Not to mention that 2 workouts a day is just insane especially if you're not already used to doing one a day.
It really bothers me every time I see a post like this because people just don't seem to understand that their bodies are perfectly calibrated machines and fast weight loss (or any weight loss) messes with that calibration. Your body needs time to adjust.
Here's one article I found. Pay special attention to the last paragraph and do your own research as well before you start. Please consider it before you do anything crazy. Is the cost of new clothes that fit greater than that of your health and life?

It would be easier (and less stressful) to just out and buy some clothes that fit. Try Target or Wal-Mart.

I went through the Police Academy a few years ago and went from working out 3-4 times a week to twice a day (sometimes 3 if I went to the gym on my own), 6 days a week. It was a strict schedule and we were all monitored by the Corporals. If you do it right I don’t believe it is that dangerous because I doubt they would have put my life in danger…
PLEASE don’t exercise that much if you are going to eat unhealthy or try one of those quickie diets. I’d be willing to give you the food plan that was put together for me based upon how much I was working out. The key is protein and lots of water.
Good luck on your mission and I can’t wait for pictures!

Thanks for the comments everyone. Just wanted to give you an update!
Eating has been horrible but thankfully school let out yesterday so I won't be tempted (and give in) to ten tons of junk food everyday:rolleyes:
I have been pretty good about working out just about everyday though. No worries on overdoing it--I am a mostly regular exerciser but want to just step up the intensity some for the next two weeks.
Starting tomorrow, I am going to follow Dr. Ian Smith's "4 Day Diet"--basically you follow a set eating module for 4 days and then switch to a different module. Not a ton of food but its doable. My goal is just to get through the first 4 day module and then assess. I'm hoping it will serve as a carb/sugar detox for me and get me eating right again.
I tried my dress on again (with spanx this time) and it fits but would feel perfect with about 5 lbs of belly bloat gone. Totally realistic to get there!

Day 1 down!
I really like this diet as you get a list of the food you can eat for the day. It's up to you to decide when/how you will eat it. LOTS of fruits and veggies with some brown rice and beans and yogurt to fill you up. Even with all the fiber, I was definitely hungry here and there but survived.
Weight loss -0.5 lbs
I did a double session of exercise yesterday morning--20 mins on elliptical (at 6 mph) and 20 mins running/walking (usually I only exercise for 20 mins each day).
It's nice having a short-term goal in sight with only being on each module for 4 days. Three more and I move on to a new module with different food selections.
Stay tuned...

Hi Amanda-This is a book and has all the info you need in it. I just got it at the library (free!). Its called "The 4 Day Diet" by Dr. Ian Smith.
So completed Day 2 yesterday.
Weigh In -0.5 (-1.0 total)
I feel like I should be losing more because I'm eating completely clean, tons of water, and exercising. Maybe retaining water though???
Either way, I like that it is kind of resetting my system and getting rid of the sugar cravings. After I complete the 4 days I will decide if I want to do another "module" of switch over to a weight watchers plan (have lost on that before).
The good news is I *feel* great! I am still hungry and probably have not let myself feel hunger in the longest time but I have lots of energy.
Yesterday I did a 20 min workout video and 20 mins on the elliptical.
Today I will probably do a long yoga video to give my legs a break.

Wow, I don't know how you do it? I would start eating furniture for sure:D
I am eating a lot of fruits and veggies with some good carbs mixed in (rice, beans, yogurts) but am still hungry--especially since I am working out. That always makes me ravenous.
Sadly, I had a year to lose this weight but of course I wait till the last minute to take it seriously.
We'll see what happens in the next couple days. If I don't drop a few pounds, I am going to just do weight watchers as I lose the same amount of weight with less deprivation. I also think all this fiber is causing some constipation so that could be part of it.
Let's check in on each other!

Good luck! Make sure you drink lots of water! You might want to try a low carb diet. Get ride of the Rice, Wheat products, and sugar. Get you good carbs from fruit like apples, black berry's and strawberry's (no fruit juice) and protein from meat. I have read different things about beans and legumes and on low carbs, mostly to stay away. Try a week of keeping your carbs under 30g, if you are exercising a lot you will need protein, use this chart. Try for a 1000-1200 calories.
SedentaryWeight in pounds X .4ActiveWeight in pounds. X .6That will give you how many grams of protein you need.
And eat all the green veggy's you want when your hungry.
Give it a try for a week, might keep you satisfied and some good results.

Completed Day 3 yesterday but scale is doing nothing and Im annoyed:confused: So I am transitioning to ww today. If I'm not going to lose weight, I'd rather be eating while not losing:p I will be focusing on healthy foods and more protein. I've been working out hard and def need more to fill me up!
The bottom line is I waited too long to do this and really there is not going to be any noticeable difference in 10 days. So I'll keep plugging along and look for a 1 or 2 lb loss each week...maybe even on the cruise!
Already got todays workout in...Shred level 1 and a 10 min cardio workout as well. I love being off for the summer and being able to exercise at my leisure in the morning!
