I am shocked, yes, shocked, I tell you , that no one has ever addressed this issue, Please tell me that it's over the roller. I must know :).

My memory is that the TP is placed over the roller.

BTW, the cabin stewards are men, which might have something to do with it. ;)

Also, doing so allows him to fold the tip of the paper to form a triangle in order to provide the "yes, I was here to clean" message.

Do you have any idea of what you have started?

Actually, if memory serves, that was the topic of a hilarious thread years ago. I think it was before the board was converted, and was lost with all the threads up to that date.

But, to answer your question, on HAL ship, it's over.

Or at the very least start a Facebook page entitled "HAL Ruined My Cruise"

Or that your steward be keel-hauled. Do you want to be responsible for that?

Forget about a free cruise - I feel you are within your rights to demand they name the next ship after you.

Now wait a minute, CtheW0rld! Not all women act on emotion. ;) I for one am quite logical! And I always have my TP over the roller.

If something has a pattern (paper toweling, for example), the pattern is upside down if it's not over the roller. Just common sense, IMO.

When you're in a restroom that has toilet paper guards, they don't work properly if the TP is under. And of course as others have mentioned, the stewards can't make the "sacred point" if the TP rolls under. (Love the term "sacred point", which comes from Motel of the Mysteries, a short humorous read about a fictitious archaeological dig. I challenge people to read it and NOT think of that term when they see the famous TP point.)

So.... when do we get to sail on the Guntherdam?

All well and good my fellow travelers....

However, those who share domicile with creatures of the curious feline persuasion will find that "Under" will save one from having to re-roll the entire contents of said roll upon their return from work each day.

And why yes, before you ask, the paper towels at the kitchen counter are “Under” too…

It has to be "over" -- no choice -- how else can the cabin stewards make that cute little tri-angle?

Tsk, tsk. You are quite wrong. It's over. And why haven't you sat and had a chat with the felines (we did!) and make them aware of unacceptable behavior. My, my, my.:)

On a HAL ship, and every where else in the known universe where Logic and Reason exist ;)

Yes, but you must admit that it is those with two Y chromosomes who usually "wind it down" (Flame-proof armor already on) ;)

Amen ! sister ! ! (and on the wrong side too)

Stewards being the source of all things perfect !

So.... when do we get to sail on the Guntherdam?

Most of us are still waiting to sail on the Sheepledam

r.
PS: AND: from personal experience, the inveterate felines will work their magic whether over or under :p

There are situations when there is simply no time to make a decision as to whether TP should be over or under. Are there no stackers here--people who just rest it on top of the empty roll so the dog can come along and steal the whole roll and make fake snow in the den (just happened to me yesterday).

On most of the ships I have been on, the TP is residing on this very cute little 'European-style' hook. It's also usually placed somewhere awkward to reach when seated.

When trying to get some sheets, the roll shoots off the hook and starts bouncing around the space like a demented superball ...and if there is one drop of water on the floor, the TP always manages to come to rest right in it!

Of course, if there are multiple water drips, the bouncing roll collects as many as possible on the way to the largest one. ;)

My first job when entering the bathroom on a cruise is to take the roll off the hook, and try to find somewhere to place it where it's protected from water, and still available (thus neither under or over).

However, if there is a usual roller, I vote for over.

We did have a dog years ago that would grab a trailing end of TP, and go for a run, but he didn't have a preference for over or under.

All I can say is that is was a gig in the US Army if the paper didn't roll off the top. :)

Well, on one of our cruises (Eurodam), we were in a Superior Veranda Suite and ran out of toilet paper twice in 7 days. The cabin stewards had failed to put extra paper under the sink  !!

Can we finally put this thread BeHind us :D !!

Did the PAX stand for this ? :(

OR,

Did they get all wrapped up in a stink for OBC and Future Cruise Discounts ?

I'm sure someone in the Supply Department got an A$$ pounding over this one.

TomC needs to contribute to this thread, the paperwork won't be finished without his input ;)

Seeing this topic brought back so many wonderful memories. As RuthC mentioned, a few years ago when everything under the sun was being discussed on this board (as it still is) and I thought it would be funny to begin a discussion about whether the TP is placed under or over.

Laura (EKerr19) and I were great friends and when I didn't have the nerve to start the thread, she did. We made up the story that her husband was very upset to learn that the TP was placed on the roll the opposite of the way he liked it. She went on that she didn't know if he could manage the cruise because the Steward was always switching it back from the way he wanted it .... and on and on. It was hysterical:D.

She did it seriously and carried it off perfectly. I chimed in seriously, too. We couldn't believe how many people bought into it and actually came after us for being so picky, but most people "got it" and picked up on it. So much fun.

The thread became a classic and I should see if it's still available. It was after the changeover.

Seeing this thread brought back so many fun memories of Laura and reminded me of how much I miss her still. God bless you, Laura ... bet you're laughing in heaven:).

P.S. Found it!!! Older than I thought ... 2005: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=140742&highlight=tp+toilet+paper

Heather,
You are never to be forgiven for posting that link :p
Some of us actually need to log off of CC every now & then
So, two hours later I now know more than will ever be necessary about TP !
However it was amazing to see so many familiar avatars from so far back.
Makes me wonder what I was missing all those years of blissful ignorance of all things CC
Keep 'em commin'

Happy you enjoyed it, Tamaracboy. It really was a fun thread ... and a really fun time. And you're right! Lots of familiar avatars and sadly many that have gone away.
