View Full Version : Swimming Pool on Amazon Cruise

I wonder if anyone can recall whether the swimming pool on SS ships is functioning while traveling on the Amazon.

I gather that the ship's pool is filled with sea water. However, I have a sense that the water in the Amazon is not, shall we say, crystal clear.

Does the ship simply fill the pool at sea and keep the same load of water while on the Amazon? Or is the swimming pool out of commission while on the river?

I talked to one of the engineers on our last cruise about how the swimming pool is filled and emptied - he stated the water is filtered in both directions (just in case little Jimmy had an "accident"). So you should be able to use the pool on an Amazon cruise (assuming the filters/pumps can handle both salt and fresh water). He also stated that they can, if necessary, quickly empty the pool as a large movable weight that high on the ship can be destabilizing: as we were currently in the Bering Sea as I was very happy to hear this. Yes, SS uses fresh water in the pool if needed. I am counting on the pool being warm and full!

Hi - not sure about the answer to your question, but are you travelling to the Amazon on the Cloud departing Nov 8th from Barbados?
If yes - so are we. I am trying to source some more people for a tour in Santaream. Would you be interested?

I hope they use crystal clear water, I think i will enjoy traveling while swimming at the same time. :)

Seawater, Freshwater, even Grey Goose...looking fwd to swimming many laps next year on the Cloud as we cruise up/down the Amazon.
