View Full Version : Has anyone ever extended their cruise while onboard?

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever been "swept up in the moment" and extended their cruise to do B2B while on board? And if they had Silversea air booked and how it was handled? How did they revise the air? The cruise after ours looks enticing, but we have Silversea air and the next cruise requires a visa for Turkey. We're on the Spirit on 8/27 out of Venice, ending in Athens and the next cruise is Athens to Istanbul. I doubt we'd be that impulsive but you never know!

I just wanted to note that the Visa for Turkey is really no big deal. If you are ending your cruise in Turkey the cruise line either gets you the visa or you just get it at the pier or at the airport.

We have extended onboard several times! (twice on Silversea) Our travel agent worked with the cruise consultant onboard and everything was smoothly handled. You may have to "move" if your suite is reserved by others, but again, SS takes care of it all and you simply move the safe. They do the rest. We had SS air and they took care of changing the return flight to a time that worked with disembarkation.

Wow, that sounds so easy and tempting. Do you remember where you did that (Med, Caribbean etc). Did they give you any special deal on the cabin since at that late date would have been sailing with it empty?

Most recent was a cruise onboard Cloud last August. We originally booked two segments and added a third onboard. We asked the cruise consultant if the "extended itinerary" was sold out: he said there was plenty of availability so we emailed our TA who got back to us via the internet within 24 hours. The only discount was the refunded air fare, which was a $1600 total savings. Also our TA added additional shipboard credit and SS added the credit that was "included" for that voyage. We had to move 2 doors down the hall, but the butler did it all while we were on an excursion:pWhen we returned to the ship, we stopped at reception to pick up our new key cards which were wating for us ..................The new return air tickets (electronic) were picked up a few days later from the guest relations manager.

so true so true Dusababy. ! That cruise (31 days) was definitely one of the best we've done. We circumnavigated Iceland (of all places,) and then toured Scotland (my favorite!) and Ireland. Was truly remarkable , on top of all that... a once in a lifetime departure and return to Tower Bridge in London! Would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Of course they will welcome your extension if there is space left on the ship. You can ask about the following:
1. A 5% back-to-back discount
2. Additional "on-board booking" discount
3. If both segments include Silversea air, whether they can give you the air credit of one of the segments.
4. If they agree to your requests, or if you are satisfied with what they are willing to give you (from the above), tell them that you will call your (hopefully heavy discount) TA (the one you originally booked with will be the most convenient) and get 12+ % discount on the extension segment fare as well.
If you have money to pay, a lot of things can be done. Unfortunately, that is one very important element we are in lack of .. meow!
Good luck and bon voyage!
