Wellington is set to become the first city in New Zealand to provide free wifi in the Central Business District and along the waterfront.
It is hoped to have the free wifi operating in September of this year in time for the Rugby World Cup.
This means cruise passengers will have free wifi along the waterfront from the cruise terminal to the National Museum TePapa in Oriental Bay and in the CBD.
Naturally cafe owners offering free or paid wifi are upset but the City Council believes it will be an asset for tourists.
