Hi All,
Planning our 30 year anniversary trip, Looking at the Zuiderdam. Is it worth the extra money for an SS caategory? I am trying to figure out if the cabin is larger than an outside. It lists the footage with the balcony not the two separately. Is just the balcony larger? We were looking at The Navigation deck. Is this a good choice. Thanks to anyone who has the time to answer.

Hi. We will be sailing this coming weekend on the Oosterdam in a SS category. We went back and forth, read a lot of the comments here, and then decided it was worth the extra monet. I'll email you when we get back and let you know.

We were in a SS last march and are booked in one two weeks from now, IMO yes it is worth it. It is much wider than a regular verandah cabin and has a tub, shower and two sinks in the bathroom.

We had an SS on the Oosterdam and loved it. We considered it well worth the slight extra and would do an SS again in a heartbeat. There are a few cabin pictures here: http://photos.yahoo.com/randyk_47 (http://photos.yahoo.com/randyk_47) This is pretty much my complete digital file so there are duplicates and extra photos we didn't use on our regular website: www.geocities.com/theklugspage/ (http://www.geocities.com/theklugspage/)

Yes, it is worth the extra and as it's your 30th anniversary, go for it. We thoroughly enjoyed ours and will take one again next time we sail on a Vista ship.

It is about 50% larger. The depth of the outside and the SS is about the same but the SS is half again as wide. The veranda is the width of the cabin and ergo wider than the regular verandas on the veranda cabins.

We just got of the O'dam yesteray and felt the extra $$ was well worth it. The extra space made the cruise seems much more luxurious.

I'll add another vote for the SS cabin being worth the extra cost. Lots more room to move around, the the extra desk over along the veranda wall is really nice. It's the bathroom, though, that really makes it worth the price of admission.

I agree with jhannah!!! and other posts that suggest you go for it! We were on the Zuiderdam last August and loved the SS on the Navigation deck. We were in 8076 and loved it! Quiet and easy to run up one deck to the lido and pool. Our balcony was by far the best we've ever had on the sea! Two comfortable loungers with hassocks in that all season rattan/wicker style. Also had a full table with three chairs. Lots of room in the stateroom as well. My wife loved it! We are on the Westerdam in two weeks staying in another SS and can't wait! I say with the price on the internet travel site that the difference between the SS and standard was so small it was worth jumping up a bit to the SS. The S I'm afraid was out of our budget. Would like to try one of those someday. Have fun and enjoy the extra space!

We were on the Zuiderdam, in SS 8061 for our honeymoon Sept 03, my husband has tried to get me to sail prior to this so many times. I can't stand confined spaces.. well let me tell you, when we entered our cabin, I was blown away by the space.. it was huge and absolutely wonderful. The balcony is large, with a small table and two chairs, two lounge chairs and ottoman's. I heard all the horror stories about the bathrooms being so small you had to backout of them.. lol.. This suite had double sinks, jazucci tub and separate shower stall. and more storage then we knew what to do with..
go for it!

Sounds like there are ALOT of SS fans!! Me being one of them. We upgraded to an SS from a VD during last Septembers hurricane fest (ship was a wee bit over half full). Best thing I ever did. We stayed in SS 8059 and have the same cabin booked for this coming September as well!! Love the location..very near the central elevators and 1 floor below all the action...pools, buffet, coffee in the morning, snacks in the afternoon, etc. Do it!!! Chef Nancy:)

We just got off the Zui. We had a regular outside cabin with verandah but my parents had the SS. It is probably 50% bigger in the room and in the verandah. My parents love it and will only travel in an SS. I would definitely recommend it.

Thank you all for your comments. I do appreciate all of you taking the time to answer. I booked the SS, now, I can't wait. We usually sail inside cabins, so this should be quite a change. My one concern, I read that there is a Buffy the vampire convention on our sailing, YUCK! How many people does a vampire convention consist of? Do I need to bring my garlic? Any other type of convention would not bother me, but vampires. Please.................

Check the thread under Holland ,Roll-Call, June 11th Zuiderdam. There's alot being said about the convention. Tell Kelmac that Tyman says hi.

IF the "vampires";) get to be too much just take comfort in knowing you'll have your spacious balcony to find peace and serenity on!! Glad to hear you booked it....you'll LOVE it!!:) Nancy
