decided that you all were so nice I'd stay longer. Love the thread about tablemates.

I'm considering a Celebrity cruise this fall for our 20th wedding anniversary. I usually sail on RCI(I have teenagers) but want something more upscale since this is the first time DH and I have been without kids for more then 4 days. icon_smile.gif

Thanks for having such a nice board where I feel I can get the info I need.

Thanks for the nice words about us! Glad you decided to stay on! icon_smile.gif

When you sail Celebrity, you will see some of the things you like about RCCL onboard. Understandable, since they are owned by the same parent company. I would just say that the food is better and it is a little more white glove.

Galaxy 5/23/05~~honeymoon!

Century 5/24/03

Majesty of the Seas 6/3/02

Chandris Victoria Summer 1984

Greetings RM,

As previous cruisers on RCCL four times (and we loved it), NCL 3 times, Princess, HAL 4 times, Carnival (not my cup of tea) 2 times, our last cruise (14 day Panama Canal east to west(our 18th Anniversay) was our virgin Celebrity cruise. We have just signed up for an eleven day Mexican Rivera cruise in February 2005 from San Diego on Mercury.

You will love Celebrity for it's "just a step up" atmosphere, more layed back "50-60" clientele, not so many "party hardy" customers. We found our cruise on Infinity more relaxing, less stressful and much more enjoyable overall. Do not read into this that fellow passengers are all "older"(70-80 plus). There seemed to be a greater percentage of European cruisers, maybe because we were on a Panama Canal trip. Whatever the reason, we thorougly enjoyed this sailing.

Our recently booked cruise will be our first in a Celebrity Sky Suite. We are looking forward to the added verandah space, and we are curious as to whether the butler service will be the extra perk it is advertised as. This booking was a fluke to good to pass up, or we never would have booked the suite. A regular verandah cabin suits us just fine.

Glad to see new visitors from other cruise lines joining our boards. Hope you are as passionate as we are about cruising, which ever line you choose.

Well put and I agree 100%. If you want to see more about the Century take a peek at my site www.Celebrity-Century.com. I have pictures of the Century, the menus from our cruise, and a few other odds and ends that you might be interested in seeing.

RM, you will appreciate the finer food (the main dining room is more like eating in the specialty restaurant on an RCI ship)..plus the extra staff members to pamper you and the "touches of luxury". Nightlife is a little more sedate, of course.

CRUISES: Queen of Bermuda '89 Tropicale '99, Explorer of the Seas '02, Radiance of the Seas '02, Vision of the Seas '03, Queen Elizabeth 2 '03, Infinity '03, Serenade of the Seas '03, Monarch of the Seas '03, Norwegian Star '03, Queen Mary 2 '04,

Diamond Princess, '04

I heartily agree. You will undoubtedly love Celebrity. It has a marvelous, somewhat upscale feel, and the ships' ambience is terrific for relaxing and appreciating life at sea.

You didn't mention what length of cruise or what ship you were looking at. For a first-time Celebrity cruiser coming over from RCCL, might I suggest you try a Millenium class Celebrity vessel.

As to the posting that said nightlight might be more sedate. Hmmmmm...? My experience is that all depends on the luck of the draw. For instance, if you're on a short 7-day cruise you might find more folk who like the disco nightlife. On the longer 11, 14-day, or more sailings we haven't found nightlife to be quite as 'hopping.'

Congratulations on your anniversary, and best wishes for a delightful cruise celebration!

Welcome RM. Yes, this board is a fun place to be and despite the reputation from some, we are not stuffy at all!

I can only endorse the comments made by others. Our two Celebrity cruises have been very special. We have been pampered without being smothered and have met some wonderful new friends from a variety of places and countries. The ships are classy, not glitzy and it all starts with the white gloved champagne served whilst you are boarding and then being escorted to your cabin.

I'm sure you will love Celebrity. icon_cool.gif

Hi RMicon_smile.gif another welcome aboard!!! I love Celebrity too...have only been on Royal once...Sovereign of the Seas, so for me the comparison was more like apples to oranges...(no comparison really). I have been on Century twice, Mercury once and going on Horizon in September.

Enjoy your cruise...whatever ship you decide to sailicon_smile.gif.

Thanks Philicon_smile.gif...it rained somewhat yesterday...the weird thing is...some areas are STILL having firesicon_frown.gif.

And some folks are just plain STUPID....throwing their cigarette butts out their window icon_mad.gif..I don't care if folks smoke...but, someone did that last night...it was on the news this morning...2500 acres are burning due to this person's actions.

Thanks all for making me feel welcome.

I'm looking at the Mercury cruise to Mexico 9 days in September. Trying to decide if it's worth the fly time.

Can you tell me how late the casinos are open in general? My DH would hate it if he had to go in too early.

I agree the fires are awful. We had a little rain last night in central FL but not nearly what we need.

Hi RM..I was always in bed before they closed icon_wink.gif. Phil...do recall how late the Casino stays open?

I had a wonderful time On the Mercury in March...she is a beautiful ship. And I met a fantastic group from these boards on her as well...we had a blast icon_biggrin.gif.

RM,

Casino is open until the "wee hours". Whatever that is its well after midnight so DH can lose his money well after dinner icon_wink.gif.

The slots and blackjack tables are pretty active, but on Celebrity we noticed the craps table not so much.

Hope this helps. Mercury is a great ship, we loved it.

Can someone tell me what a typical sea day is like? Not looking for the Hairy chest contest type of stuff......

Hi againicon_smile.gif No Hairy Chest Contests...

Typical Sea Days..the usually offer different activities...I love trivia..they have triviaicon_smile.gif We played Battle of the Sexes which was quite funicon_smile.gif Some days it was in the Rondeaveau Lounge, other times it was in Navigator.

They also had music trivia...We played teams for "BEATLES MUSIC"..we came in 2nd placeicon_smile.gif.

They had cooking demonstrations...YUMMY icon_biggrin.gif.

They have Art Auctions, a wine tasting, lets see...I don't always participate in "daily activities"...for me it is just wonderful to sit outside...(On the Mercury AFT) there is a lovely deck area with tables and chairs just beyond the "Palm Springs Buffet". I love to just have a drink and read a good book.

I can't think of the other activities at this moment...I sailed her in March...gosh, my mind is going fast icon_wink.gif.

But "Hairy Chest Contests" were not listed on the daily....so not to worry icon_smile.gif.

Nothing like that on the Constellation (we were on a 13 day Best of Europe cruise). Then again we weren't in the tropics either. But that just doesn't sound like Celebrity. Here is what I remember - guest lecture, movies, art auction, cooking demonstrations, tea. Also bingo, napkin folding, flower arranging, scarf tying. Overall, IMHO, lots to do. For me, walk on deck, couple hours in the thallostherapy pool, nice long lunch, cocktails with new friends, dress for dinner. Never bored that is for sure! icon_cool.gif

Hi RM. No, I don't remember a hairy chest competition either. Shame really. That would be one thing I was good at icon_smile.gif
