Now that I have committed to b2b repositioning cruises from September 17-OCtober 15, I am becoming concerned about the overhang on the Sky deck cabins. We have 9129 for the first two weeks and a guarantee CC for the second. We consider ourselves fortunate to have been able to get any balcony cabins at this time.
I just like to be prepared though. Has anyone been in 9129 and is the overhang as enormous and light blocking as it appears in some of the photos I have looked at on the photo links? I am wondering too if that is really the reason that Celebrity created the CC cabins, in response to people who were ticked off at the absence of light in fairly expensive cabins.
I just called my TA and she was vague. I was also wondering if any cabins become available once the passenger manifest is completed. If they do can you request to be put on a wait list?
Thanks in advance.

We were in 9053 last year and loved the overhang. You can sit outside in just about any weather and not get wet. See you on the Summit in September!

Hey Evana

Yes, the overhang is enormous and light blocking. Some people find that a positive? as they do not like too much sun, and it protects you from getting wet in rain. I found it a hinderance, I couldnt even see the sky at night. I was in cabin 9108, where the overhang doesnt jut out as much as the others, and it still blocked light and I could not see the sky.

I think you are correct in assuming that Celebrity needed to give xtra perks to these cabins to sell them, thus the CC. But the xtra perks are nice, and when all is said and done, I am sailing with them again. And I booked a cabin with a very big overhang...

Hope this helps.

Hi

We actually love the overhang. We sailed Summit and are booked on her again in CC. We had CC on Millie also. The cabins are not dark like some may think and the plus is that you can use the balcony in all weather conditions (unless it's really windy and then you can't use any balcony). The perks are the second plus, but of course, this is only MY opinion. I know others don't like the large overhang. To each his own I say http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Thank you all.
I was actually on the phone with my TA almost ready to book a different cabin (smaller but lower down) when I turned on my computer. Your comments made me stay put. I will learn to LOVE the overhang!!! The part about not getting wet was a BIG plus. (Especially during the Alaska portion.) I have also decided that if I want to look straight up and see the sky, I will take the elevator up one deck and deal with it that way!
Looking forward to meeting you as well NM Traveler.

Don't worry about rain, you are traveling with people from New Mexico. We would actually like to see rain or have someone describe it to us. Theu say you can always tell people from NM, when it rains, they get out of their cars to watch!

what are you under? We had 9099 and the pool deck above was VERY noisy.
Another reason for the sky deck being CC. The pictures are right on and some people like the over hang. I wont book on that deck again.
The over hang is so big, if you book one level down, it would still protect you from rain. Plus you have these big beams in every picture you take from your balcony.
You cant look up at the stars at night. How about weighing it out. Take all the positive and all the negative and see what you come up with. People cruise for different reasons and enjoy different parts of the cruise.

I hear what you are saying about needing to see rain. We have started Hurricane season in South West Florida. We have not had rain in one heck of a long time and our humidity is unseasonably low. I told my husband the other day that I was craving a rainy day so that I would have an excuse to clean closets. Living in paradise is wonderful, but the plants are starting to suffer.

If you choose your cabin carefully on deck 9, there are a few above which there is a cut-out and no beams. We were able to figure these cabins out, and on our last cruise noticed the difference between our cabin (9150) and the kids' connecting cabin where the overhang and beams were much more noticeable. I know that 9185 (we'll be in it for Alaska) is also the same. There are a few others like that, but don't know the numbers. So, if CC is something you want and are worried about the overhang, then try to see about getting one of those cabins - I don't know if the cruise line will know the actual cabin numbers. But, I know that we really ejoyed our CC cabin on deck 9 (it was also very quiet that far back), and did not feel that closed in on our balcony (and I'm somewhat claustrophobic...).

We have been in cabin 9029 & 9031 on different trips and found the overhead to be a plus since we like to have a bit of shade when doing the caribean trips. The location is a good one as we were not bothered with a lot of noise.

Enjoy your trip.
