View Full Version : Concierge Benefits Off to a Dismal Start?

I have been trying to keep track of 2012 sailings to see if Cat E do, in fact, sell out before Cat F; so far I haven't spotted any. For our cruise on Mariner Nov 2012, H and G have been waitlisted for quite a while. As Cat E is only $300 more than Cat F, I would even consider ponying up the extra funds for the benefit. However, this week, Cat F went on waitlist. Dismal performance for concierge benefits. Of course, one cruise does not a trend make; will be interested in how the rest of the 2012 cruises (that have concierge benefits) sell out.

mark, old way was that people bought cabins from the bottom to the top. Remains to be seen if people will pay in at the upper middle (E and above) to get priority. I sure won't. If not, Regent will rethink and promote something else, I guess. I would rather pay the extra on my own and get some private excursions with friends if shut out of those big coaches. To me, it would be a wash for a whole lot more fun at about the same price. Taking my adult girls (boys next year somewhere) on a cruise next year to the Med. Would rather use my very generous TA/Regent onboard/shipboard credits (and theirs) for private vans split between us. They will still have enough left over for a spa treatment!

This so called "perk" of priority booking applies to so many people that IMO considerably reduces its value.

I'm not sure how much effort Regent is putting into promoting the concierge scheme: I can find nothing about it on their website, for example and Regent's rep (UK office) did not mention it when I asked about cabin availability for our next cruise in May 2012. (There seemed to be plenty of availability in E and above too!) Seems strange if they really intend the scheme to speed up sales of the higher deck suites.

Anybody that has cruised before, knows that D deck on the Mariner will be /can be noisy at times...early morning and late at night when the chairs are being moved and trollies are rolling across the pool deck.

We ended up with a D suite on our first cruise, since I needed the shower only. Yes, I knew the deck under the pool could be a problem and has been on some other ships. It also is on the Mariner, so we will not take a suite on this deck again.

by "D" deck I think you mean Deck 10? At least, that is the deck under the pool. We have had suites (PH B) a couple of times on this deck and have had no noise at all from above... On the Navigator we were in a Navigator suite on deck 9 and there we did have some noise in the daytime but nothing that really bothered us and nothing at all at night.

You have the Voyager confused with the Mariner (easy to do). We have been in suites on Deck 10 on the Voyager and did hear noise from the pool deck. Just checked the Deck Plans. . . . on the Mariner, they do have "D" category suites under the pool.

Thanks TC..Yes. I meant the D category on deck 10 on the Mariner. We were toward the stern and were under the pool and the surrounding open deck area. That is a noisy area on the Mariner with all the moving of stuff when the deck is being cleaned at night and set up in the morning. Many passengers around us commented on it at the four block parties. We would not normaly pick these suites, but I wanted a tub so that is what we were assigned.

There are some higher end suites (penthouse??) forward of the forward elevators on Deck 10 that probably do not have the noise problem.

I personally would not book a "D" category suite on the Mariner (or the Voyager, if it has the same deck plan). They are way too noisy for the extra several $1000 dollars! I know there was at least one Penhouse suite several doors down from us and I would include this one in the "no go" group also.

You seem to know these ships very personally! We have just booked 842 on the Voyager (not been on it before) and wonder if this is an OK situation in your opinion?

That looks like a fine location to me.

842 should be fine. You have suites above and below you so noise shouldn't be a problem. We had friends who sailed in 841 and had no noise problems. Hope this helps.
