I am booked on the June 26th Veendam cruise to Bermuda. We went the route of booking a gauranteed outside window. We finally received our cabin number and it is one of the hanicap cabins. Not sure if this is a good thing or bad. Anyone with any knowledge of these cabins and if they are any different than a regular outside stateroom? Any info would be great.

Thanks

We received a handicapped accessible cabin as a result of booking a guarantee as well. We were placed in Amsterdam 1807 on the Dolphin Deck.

I don't know if the bed was lower, but we could not store our largest piece of luggage under the bed. The bed's legs were no longer on the floor when we used the "lift" method described in another thread.

There was plenty of closet space for us.

The bathroom is much larger, but the floor in the main bathroom area can become wet if you are showering in moderate to heavy seas. The drain wasn't fast enough to keep up with the flow. It didn't stay wet for long, though.

We had no shelf under the sink for storage.

The difference I noticed the most was the absence of the loveseat. A chair was available, but no loveseat.

We had no major complaints, but I wouldn't choose to book a HA room. Many people prefer the open space, but I prefer to have the extra seating, so that I'm not restricted to sitting on the bed only.

Also, we ended up being farther forward. DH has become more sensitive to sea sickness, so the up/down movement was noticeable. I don't know if all HA cabins would be that way (as far as placement forward/aft).

I ended up with a HC on the Volendam, lower promenade several years ago. The equivalent cabin on the Veendam would be 390 or 393. I did not really like the cabin. The love seat was buried in a dark corner near the bathroom making it all but unusable. The Bathroom was large (only a very large shower) and as mentioned a drain runs around the outside of the shower with no lip to the bathroom floor. The shower worked well until one morning (I don't know why) the drain became clogged and flooded the bathroom and part of the cabin. This issue was fixed immediately and the floor cleaned and dried.

My biggest complaint about this cabin was the noise from above early in the morning and late at night. Evidently these cabins are under the kitchen areas. I dealt with the noise, but it was annoying at times.

I hope this helps with your question?

Thank you both for your info. Hopefully everything will be ok.

After also reading about the noise that this cabin could have being under the galley, I called HAL and was able to switch to a cabin on the main deck mid ship.

Glad to hear it, good decision.
