I was reading a recent review from a cruiser on a Princess Cruise to Alaska who stated that on their cruise there was a great sailaway party on their ship but they noticed that on the ship also sailing away next to them was a HAL ship which basically had no sort of sailaway party and lack of excitement coming from passengers. Does that sound like the norm. for HAL ships sailing to Alaska from Seattle? That would be kind of a bummer!

Was it raining? The sailaway party can be cancelled due to bad weather if there isn't a covered area for the Hal Cats to set up. Moisture plays havoc with their electronics.
The other thing is was the ship delayed leaving port? Our sailaway party to Alaska began at 5pm for the one hour set and the Hal Cats started on time. There was a medical emergency and an ambulance came to take away a passenger. We got underway just before 6pm and the musicians stopped playing shortly after. I guess their contract states they play from 5 to 6 no matter if the ship has left dock or not. So yeah it was pretty quiet on deck while we sailed out of port and some people had moved on to other places on the ship or getting ready for dinner.

When we sailed away on the Amsterdam last July from Seattle, there was a sailaway party. It wasn't a Carnival party, but still plenty fun for those who were involved. Our CC rollcall group partied on! (We wore mardi gras-type beads so we would know each other.)
