I have ours on our Ribbon -- wear our medals only to the Mariner pre-brunch award ceremony.
They look so checp compared to our 100, 300 and 500 day original pins - which are also on the Ribbon holding the medals.

Not even sure I know where our pins are.....guess that answers the question. Of course, with us cutting back on HAL cruises it probably doesn't make any difference.

We couldn't wear the 3 star pin because they never sent them to us as promised. They did send us the 4 star pins recently, but we won't have a chance until next month and we probably won't use them anyway. They are unlovely.
On our last cruise on the Maasdam, 4 star mariners were a dime a dozen. I think the cruise director said there were nearly sixty aboard that cruise.

KK, Tom and I have ours attached to our medallion ribbon as well. I also agree they look really cheap compared to the original pins.

I also don't like the design of the pins. I make pins for a living and I think the design is terrible.
I always wear something that I have made that I think is interesting.... ...just to see. Who might notice::)

They are too ugly for me to wear. I would never consider putting a big hole through the fabric of any of my clothes with it, although the pin could fit through a lapel buttonhole. I would also be embarrassed to advertise that I fell for the mariner marketing ploy of giving tacky pins and the bare minimum of benefits to long time repeat Holland America cruisers. Has anyone figured out what a 4 star mariner pin cost them? Can you tell that I am not a HAL loyalist?

DH won't wear his 4 star pin even on his tuxedo. That pin indicates that we have just 200 days when we actually have nearly 700 days.

Ostentatious for most people on Princess but you'll probably fit right in on HAL. :p

I have seen as many wearing pins on Princess as on HAL. I don't think wearing the pins is ostentatious. More like pretentious. Some pins do signify something but cruise line loyalty pins are a fail.

As soon as wearing one gets me something like a free drink I'll begin to wear it but certainly not impress a fellow cruiser who couldn't care less.

You don't earn the pin, you buy it. It is one of those no cost items that the cruise line uses to promote brand loyalty in place of a reward that has montetary value. Some like it, some don't.
Maybe the supermarkets, banks, and auto manufacturers should do something like this for people who spend a lot at a particualar grocery chain, pay excessive bank fees and interest rates, or buy a new car every one or two years.

The only place we'd even consider wearing our pins is to the Mariner Brunch, but we don't often attend that.
In the past we've seen some wearing their medallions ALL the time on board. I'd think 'There is someone impressed with themselves'. I'll probably think the same thing if I spot anyone wearing their pin ALL the time.

Guilty as charged Ma'am and happily so:D
Seriously though, I am proud of my Mariner pin because I have earned it (or bought it, as someone else mentioned) by being able to cruise on a line of my choice.
I do not think it ostentatious if I see anyone with a pin or medallion on the cruise. I see them as being proud of what they have achieved:)

I'm trying to figure out some unusual and cute applications for the mariner's pins and medallions.
I thought of casting them in a flat sheet of some transparent plastic and using it for a clipboard for playing trivia.
I've thought of making them into wind chimes for use on a veranda.
I've thought of building them into some sort of concho belt.
I've thought of fastening them together somehow and making one heck of a western belt buckle.
Anyone have any original ideas of what to do with them? No off color subjects please.

hang it on the Christmas tree....at the back beside the toaster you got from the bank or the frequent sleeper card from the hotel chain.

How about selling them on EBay? Probably can't get much for them but there are collectors of that kind of tochkas. Or someone who wants to go on HAL and wants to look like they are a veteran HAL cruiser. None would be able to tell they were faking it.

I just threatened to bury my wife with it if she predeceases me. It's a hollow threat, she knows she'll be cremated. Still, it seems some HAL loyalists would be proud to display it in an open coffin. Now is the time to make your wishes known.

On the WC 2011 on the Amsterdam, there were over 400 persons with the 4 star mariners status when we started, another 100+ became 4 stars after the segments during the cruise. It complicates things for the free laundry, the priority tendering, etc. Almost half.
There were also 18 of the total 26 president's club members which is 1,400 days minimum (real days not credit days). Not many people worried about the 200 day medaillion.

Unfortunately all that ever seems to be there are the 25 and 50 day spins. Those are easy to come by, it is the. It is the 100, 300 and 500 that are a bit harder to find.
