After getting our picture taken as a group of 8 (took some finageling) we walked up to the prominade deck and onto the boat. We were greeted by a long line of staff waiting to escort passangers to the lido but the parents just wanted to wander around so that is what we did. Until they discovered that nothing was open so we went up to the lido.
It may take you a while to figure your way around the lido buffet but if you ask the waiters there they can point you to what you want. I found overall with HAL that if you didn't know something all you had to do was ask and they would tell you right away. I didn't find language to be much of a problem but I am used to talking to people who don't speak english as a first language so I think nothing of rephrasing or repeating a little more slowly. Not louder, mind you...that's annoying.
Got our food and went out to the deck to watch the ships in port. I suggest going straight here and claiming a table as they are in short supply. Saw them setting out the cups for sailaway party to come later.
Gave the poor waiter an incredably large bar order and he had to come back a few times to clarify. For some reason he was the only one without a little pad of paper. This was the only time this happened, every other time the paper pads were at the ready.
Strawberry Daqueries were had. Comments that you could "really taste the liquor" for those concerned about such things. I think they probably put it in last so you can taste it more, not necesarily a higher content though.
Also, for those who are interested, a "strawberry kiss" which is 1/2 pina colata and 1/2 strawberry daquery is called a "miami vice" here. Who knew.
State room ready around 1pm, as reported by many. Catagory A ( I think) #1079. Queen bed and a sofa as far as we could see. Turns out when you ask them to make it up for 4 people a bunk bed comes out of the cealing!
FUN TIMES!
All of our bags arrived by 3 but grandma's didnt get to her room until about 515. Saw a guy in the hall stop a room steward and tell him that the wrong bags had been delivered to his room and that the right room was 4 doors away. Asked the steward to "have someone take care of that". Personally, I would have just moved them myself. It probably took more effort to track the room steward down but anywho...
Dinner first night was casual. I don't remember what I or anyone else had but if someone has the menu I would remember. Know that there is always the option of caesar salad, chicken breast, steak and baked potato for every night. It is down at the bottom of the menu. Also check out the desserts for the night as you walk into the vista. Means you can plan if you want soup or 2 desserts (or both I suppose. I don't eat soup).
Skipped the "sampler" show and sat out on the lido. Went to music trivia and lost by 1 point but won a dam mug so that was fun.
Note: The other side of the family had a small balcony room (6038) and when they had it made up for 4 people it turned into 2 twin beds, a pull out couch and a cealing bunk bed whose ladder went between the two twin beds. Watch your head!!!!!! I think they probably could have had it switched around but I'm not sure.
More to come......I write more for this than my papers. not a good sign.
