This is a general question... for the smaller staterooms that supposedly accomodate 3 or 4 adults, how do you open up the pull out couch? It doesn't seem like there is enough room especially with the table and chairs they show in the pictures.

Veendam ocean-view photos prompted this question, but I'd imagine other ships are similar.
Does anyone have pictures of how they made it work?

My brother and his DW had a triple on the Nieuw A and they were missing a chair that we had in a double. The footstool will go under the desk, and I guess the steward finds someplace to put the table. Maybe on the veranda when there is one?

You can find pictures on IRL_Joanie's site of cabins with the sofa opened. You might be able to spot where they put the table in one of them. ;)

The sofa beds usually fold down into a single bed that you sleep lengthwise on. It doesn't fold out into the cabin like a standard sofa bed would.

We have 10 HAL cruises under our belt, each with four of us in a single cabin. The answer depends on the room. In some rooms, such as those on the Amsterdam or Maasdam, the long couch does not open, but folds over into a single bed that is lengthwise with the couch. In others, the smaller "loveseat" size couch opens up as pictured above. We have had that style in the Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam.

As a reminder, if you are only three, to avoid using the couch as a sleeper, if you book a quad room, you will also have a bunk that comes down from the ceiling. That would conceivably give you more usable space in the room at night, at the cost, however, of some headroom over one of the beds.

So, the fold-down bed is near the window of an ocean-view? I just want to get a good visualization of what it'd be like.

Thanks for all the help so far!

Think it depends more on the cabin type. We have had the single fold down style on all the vistas as well as the Veendam.

Thanks for all the help so far!My DD and DSiL had a quad outside (C cabin) assigned to them on the Zuiderdam, and the pull-down was on the long wall, over the sofa - which apparently opened like a clam shell. I thought it would have opened like the picture of Noordam 5076.

We have booked an inside "J" category quad on the Main Deck on the Eurodam because those are the biggest rooms you can get on the ship until you get to the suite category. With our family two of the four are small children, though.

In the J category quads (the Main Deck J's are the only big ones like that), there is a pull-out couch and also a bed pull-man style that comes out over the two twins. The J rooms are pretty big, so I am confident we'll have enough space to move around.

Depends on the ship. On the Amsterdam, Maasdam, Ryndam and Zaandam, in an FF or E ocean view room, the main bed(s) are below the window, and the fold-down bed is between the main bed(s) and the bathroom. On the Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam, in the C and D ocean view rooms, the fold-out bed was near the window, as the main bed(s) are between the fold-out bed and the bathroom.
