I wasn't sure what was in a Lemon Drop, so I looked it up. It sounds like it would taste very sweet!

1 1/2 ounces vodka
1/2 ounce Triple Sec
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
Ice cubes
Superfine sugar for dipping
Twisted peel of lemon

Mix the vodka, Triple Sec, sugar, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice; shake well (supposedly the cocktail is to be shaken 40 times to make sure the sugar is well blended). Pour strained liquor into sugar-rimmed martini glass and garnish with a twisted peel of lemon.

NOTE: To create a sugar-rimmed glass, take a lemon wedge and rub the drinking surface of the glass so it is barely moist. Dip the edge of the glass into sugar.

Makes 1 serving.

On Galaxy. last May, I got a wonderful "drink of the day" called a Dakota Margarita. I loved it, it was a frothy frozen yellow concoction, but I haven't been able to find out what was in it. Anyone ever heard of it?

Iggipolka
March 2nd, 2005, 07:17 PM
I had to look this one up too. I've never heard of Benedictine before.

* 1 1/2 ounce gin
* 1/2 ounce Cherry Herring brandy
* 1/4 ounce Cointreau
* 1/4 ounce Benedictine
* 4 ounces pineapple juice
* 1/2 ounce lime juice
* 1/3 ounce grenadine
* dash bitters

Shake with ice. Strain into an ice filled collins glass. Garnish with cherry and slice of pineapple.

Pure OJ in the AM

A beer or a glass of wine with lunch
Pina Coladas by the pool (in warm climes) or Irish Coffee with the glaciers.
Limon Martinis before dinner
appropriate wines with dinner
perhaps a glass of porto with the cheese
double cappuchino
Remy VSOP

time for bed! :)

Favorite is a Sombrero made with real cream. I was introduced to these on my first cruise and I was spoiled because HAL used real cream in those days. When I returned to HAL after too many years I (sadly) discovered HAL was using milk then. I mentioned my disappointment to the steward. From that moment on whenever he saw me coming he raced to the kitchen to get real cream for my drink.

My classic stand by is a Lime Margarita with no salt on the rocks. Or rye (Canadian Whiskey) and gingerale.
I do like Corona beer with lime on a hot day.
Wine with dinner (usually red, I really like Gamay)
Champagne to toast with my hubby - and we can always find time to toast something (why wait for an extra special occasion??)

But not all in the same day of course!!

As someone who has been in the restaurant biz for about 30 years ( have I given away my age?) , use a little less sugar and a splash or two of O.J. in a lemon drop. It makes it taste better and alot more smoother. :) Don't pass on this tricks of the trade!!!!!;)

B&B is a brand of booze which is brandy and benedictine blended together. It's a name brand. My favorite is a Cadilllac Margarita chilled straight up during the day and either a BFK coffee (Bailey's, Frangelico( hazelnut liqueur) and Kahlua) or a Beautiful (Grand Mariner & Courvasier).:D

Rich,
I have to agree with you about the morning after sweet drinks. Ouch!!!!!! What a headache from all that sugar. I tend to forget about that while I'm drinking my Grand Mariner because it tastes so good.:D

zdude
March 3rd, 2005, 01:25 AM
The morning after those sweet drinks is easily solved by plenty of water while you are drinking the sweets. Forget this and ouch.

Here is a good twist on the lemon drop.

I have heard this drink go by a couple of things one is a mandarine drop. Its good if you like a lemon drop, but frankly the Orange vodka and muddled orange is good enough for me. Maybe a little soda if you are going to have a couple.

Orange vodka, Mandarine Napoleon, fresh sour, and muddled orange in a sugar-rimmed glass.

Absolutely my favorite thing in the world for after dinner is Remy Louis XIII. I have it maybe once a year. Anyone now if they serve it on HAL?

From the wine order form... Don't know that they actually have these for sure, but they are on the list. Full bodied, good reds are slim pickens if you like good ones.

None of the wines have years on them, so it is very difficult to determine if pricing is good or not. Prices seem to be 1.5-3x store prices. 3x being cheaper bottles and 1.5x being expensive bottles.

White:
102, 162,167,143,164

Red
442,431, 430 421 should be good or 390,015, 016

I really only know the full bodied red wines and they have no full bodied Pinots IMO, recommendation for US Pinot is Argyle, David Bruce,Domaine Droughin. Bring your own if you like Pinot.

Another thing not to be missed if it is offered is the "create your own Bloody Mary" usually set up in one of the bars.

They offer a generous pouring of the Vodka of your choice (yes, even Grey Goose!) and there is a bar set up where you get to add all your favorite concoctions - even those large shrimp! Heavenly... unfortunately Grey Goose gives me a headache, so I stick with my Absolut. :)

Thanks! I hadn't thought about looking at the wine pre-order form. Funny you mention the Conundrum... I have a bottle of that here which I paid about $20 for - $46 on the ship - unless this is a MUCH better year than my 2000 or 2002, I can't understand such a huge price hike on a fairly simple white table wine!!!

I like the David Bruce Pinot as well, but I have a really great bottle of 1998 Elyse Zinfandel that I'm bringing along. The Conundrum, the Zin, a Mondavi merlot, and a nice chardonnay ought to get me thru the week. I can always order anything I try that's tasty from the ship... :D (oh, forgot to mention a bottle of bubbly of course).

NOW I understand why so many people bring their own wine aboard, and for me, I freely admit, it is NOW a monetary consideration. Never realized the mark up was quite so high until I saw the Conundrum. I guess I never really paid that much attention before when I've ordered a bottle on ships?
