So far she's booked, but like Patty said you know Mimi. I hope she doesn't cancel. We got a really great price that I couldn't pass up. Actually looking forward to it since we haven't been to the Bahamas in a long time.

Isn't there anything that leaves out of Bayonne?
No. They are not doing anymore NJ sailings. And nothing out of Florida in the summer. So that leaves us March from Florida or San Juan or just letting it go. Thought maybe we could find a short one from Miami or something because we will be down there this summer. No luck.

That stinks that you would have to lose it but I wound up losing mine. When I cancelled my Silihouette they didn't even offer to move it somewhere else and I never thought to ask.

When I moved it from this March to next the guy said to just call back if I have to move it again. Did you cancel in time to get the deposit back? Is it 3 months out? I made sure I did it before final payment was due. That stinks if they didn't offer it to you. They should have suggested moving it instead of canceling.

Hey Theresa, well you know that us, Carol, Nafce, Dee, John, Kim, Alex, Mimi and Walt are doing a b2b on the Allure in December. Wish you were coming.
Wednesday will be 4 weeks and I'm still in a cast and still can't put any pressure on the foot. I go to the docs on Thursday and I'm hoping he takes these darn pins out because they really are annoying and they hurt off and on.
How's everyone else here doing? Ann, what have you been up to?
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!! Honestly, I'm not!!!

Hi all! I have been busy writing a course book for a class I teach, traveling around teaching out of town, and now on my week home to work, we have been without power since the big storms went through on Friday. What a way to celebrate the 4th and my birthday. :( Luckily I have a good friend who is letting me hang out at her house and TRY to work. Ha ha.

Patty, I hope you're feeling better. Hopefully your doctor's visit went well and the pins are out. I can't even imagine what that must be like. I don't think I'm ready for a ship as big as the Allure yet. I'm hoping they bring the Sunshine Class to Bayonne in 2014. We'll have to wait and see.

Theresa,
I went to the docs on Thursday and they left the cast off and took the pins out. He told me to start walking on it but it hurts so bad so I'm using the walker still and really limping along - they said to use a walker or cane until I'm good to go. Of course, can't do a lot of walking on it but enough to get me around the house which is certainly better than walker and wheel chair. Certainly won't be walking in Shop Rite or anywhere like that for now.
I have to do a bunch of stretching exercises with the foot and toes but they really hurt when I stand on them!!! At least now I can get my leg wet and the first thing I did when I came home from the docs was wash my leg and shave it!! LOL
Anyway, I'm hoping it gets better after maybe a week and that I'll be able to walk without to much pain. He doesn't want to see me for 4 weeks at which time he said he'll try getting me into a show and or sandel. For now I'm in one of thos stupid hard shoes that he gave me and I have a boot at home from a previous surgery so I can switch off between those two for now.
Guess no beach for me for awhile as I won't be able to walk in the sand. Hopefully, maybe sometime in August! I still have stitches under the toes but they are dissolvable and the other stitches he did he put inside and they are also dissolvable. When he removed those pins I thought I'd die!!! The cast guy told me they were at least 3" long!!!! OMG.....they gave them to me and they really are at least 3".

Hi All! I am still sitting here waiting for our March 2013 cruise to come around. Chocking on the airfare to San Juan. I haven't booked flights yet so I am getting real nervous. Price was about $1200 per couple now it is up to $1400. don't know if I should wait or jump on something. Of course it is still 8 months out so who knows what the airlines will do to the flights between now and then!
Hope everyone is enjoying their summer!

Wow Kathy, That's a lot of mula just to fly to Puerto Rico!!!! I just can't justify paying that much to fly somewhere in order to get on a cruiseship............that's crazy!!! I think I'd wait and see if prices come down unless you book with a line that doesn't charge for changes and you can get the reduction with no fees attached to it.
Good Luck!

Just pretend you are in the casino when you are buying airfare. It is really quite similar. Unlike cruises, you just have to bite the bullet and buy it at some point, then don't look any more. You will just frustrate yourself.
In most of my work travels, I have found that airfare mostly goes up and not down. The really nice thing about Southwest is that they don't charge change fees, so if the price goes down, you just change your ticket and you have a year to use the credit left on your account. AirTran is being bought by Southwest, so I don't know if they offer the same thing. They don't have their March 2013 prices out, but it looks like they have some pretty good pricing for Feb out of Columbus. I'm not sure what the closest airport to you would be where AirTran services.
Airfare to PR is why those cruises usually have such good prices. Good luck.

That's why I picked this cruise. The price was right. We have 5 couples going - 3 from Albany airport, 1 from Hartford and 1 from Tampa. I dont' believe that Southwest goes to San Juan.....Jet Blue does but they only have their schedule out until Feb 17th. They also don't charge for baggage. They don't fly out of Albany but if need be we can drive to Hartford which is only 2 hours from here. Which my husband and his brother don't want to do but...... We are going down the day before because of all the horror stories and experiences with the airlines.
I am not even worried about the Florida couple yet. Those flights are cheap from Tampa....

Believe it or not, Scott is a sophomore at Brigham Young University. He is majoring in Bio-chemistry with the goal of getting an MD or PHD to do medical research. He is also in the marching band. He totally loves school. Hopefully it stays that way.

Theresa and Eileen, tell me more about your favorite spots and what you did. We tender in Charlottetown, so we may do a ship excursion so that we can get off the ship at a decent time. Now that gold, platinum, and suites all get priority tender tickets, it will probably be very hard to get off the ship early. But then again, with 10 ports and only 2 sea days, people may be tired and we can sneak off while they are all still sleeping. :D

Hi everyone, just thought I'd stop by and let you all know that the KLUTZ did it again. I fell Tuesday while on work business (tripped over a curb and went flying - landed flat on the pavement). Had pain on my left side which got worse each day and by Friday, the Employee Health office sent me for xrays. They showed a fractured and displaced 6th rib. Pain is terrible!! Hurts to do any upper body movement so even getting up from a chair hurts. Hurts to take deep breaths too. They told me there is nothing to do for it. They sent me home and told me to ice it, rest, take walks and do deep breathing even though it hurts. They said I need to keep those lungs working so I don't get pneumonia. I'm so mad at myself for doing this - our cruise is in about 8 weeks and I have so much to do before that and can't do anything right now.

Patty,
I am so sorry to hear about your fall. Can't they at least wrap it or something to help? That is just awful. It really stinks that breathing hurts. Don't you love when Drs say, they know it hurts, but do it any way? Rest, breathe deeply, and take care of yourself so that you can be good for the cruise.
I am really good at falling flat out and not doing major injuries. I didn't take any pictures of my face earlier this year when I panicked over a VERY small bug my husband was trying to not scare me about, and I went over our living room couch and tipped it into the book shelf. I caught myself and the couch with my nose. I looked really bad for a while, and it hurt, but luckily, I didn't do any real damage.
When I was in Jr High, my mom even bought me a t-shirt with a big S that said Super Klutz.
Eileen, thanks for the pictures. I think at least one of our stops in Halifax we will rent a car so that we can get around and do our own thing. My mom has a hard time with stairs. Do you think she could do the HoHo bus? I know some of them are lower than others.
Carol, we have definitely jumped fully onto the NCL band wagon, but I almost booked a RCCL Bahamas cruise for Halloween this week. It was only $129 per person for the 4 day cruise from Canaveral, but by the time I checked with Ron, the price had jumped back to $399. Still a good price, but not enough incentive now to go that route instead of NCL which is still $139 out of Miami that week.
We like NCL because of the relaxed atmosphere. We would rather not sit with others for dinner and Ron loves to wear his shorts in the dining room, so it is a big win for us. Also, their next cruise program is great. This causes me to buy a certificate each time we are on board.
I just added a new photo book for our Niagara Falls trip to Shutterfly here. (http://weberfamilytravels.shutterfly.com/pictures)

Ann,
In Halifax, we did the HoHo bus; it's a great way to see Halifax. My favorite stops were the Old Burial Ground and the Victorian Garden.
In Halifax, there is also the Titanic Memorial. We didn't get to that, unfortunately.
Ann, we did a bus tour in Halifax and stopped at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery. There are victims from the Titanic tradegy buried here. The stone markers are in rows that form the bow of the ship. I have pictures but I'm not very good at uploading or attaching. The people in Halifax are very nice and there is so much to see that 1 day isn't enough. We've been there a few times and the last time we took the tour out to Peggy's Cove. It was nice, but very crowded with 3 ships in port that day. You can save that for another time. Send me your email address and I'll send you a few pics. My email address is amv1321 at verizon dot net.

Patty
Patty, hope you're feeling better. Your cruise is just about 5 weeks away. You all will be cruising the same time we are. We leave on Dec 3rd for 10 days. I can't believe how fast it came up.

Patty, we're sailing on the Explorer. The cruise seemed so far off and now we're almost down to the wire. I'm trying to cut down on what we take (I always overpack), so I'm going to try to only bring 2 suitcases, like that's going to happen (lol). Don't laugh but I'm already thinking about when to put the Christmas tree up so when we get back I won't have to rush. We were talking about the holidays in work and Thanksgiving is only 4 weeks away and Christmas not far behind.

Hi You Guys:
I am also thinking about Christmas - I don't like to celebrate the commercial part of it now... too old for that, but I do want to show the real meaning of Christmas and put things up or that reason only -
I have a skinny 7' Pretend tree that is kinda' cute - easy to put up, easy to decorate - like Patty, will try to do that after Thanksgiving -
my problem is my Card sending- I send out lots of cards - oh well, do I send before to tell them of my upcoming cruise or Afterwards to tell them how much I had fun - ha!ha!
doesn't matter, they will be late as usual... Carol

Carol,
You made me chuckle. I don't send Christmas cards. We put up a big tree that takes me forever to decorate. Last year Michael bought the musical Charlie Brown tree and we had so much fun with it. Very easy to assemble and includes the ornament and blanket (lol). I told him to get one for his sister this year because she doesn't put a tree up.

We did a lot with them on this cruise. They cruised in the past but never to the Easter Caribbean. The only thing for me was I was sick a few days before the cruise and had to get an antibiotic to break it.

Theresa,
We had a great time! Lots of fun with Carol, Dee, Kim and Mimi........LOL Kathy Nelson was on the cruise too and I hadn't seen her since 2002 so it was nice to see her and Bill as well and I finally got to meet Jo who I had been chatting with and also Jeanne DeMarco. We were in Blaze every night for cocktails. I couldn't even drink by the 2nd week.........LOL The ship is amazing and we wanted to experience it at least once so glad we did it. We really don't need a ship that big but it really is an amazing ship! It took me a while to get used to the pools..........there's 4 of them but they are separated by an opening in the middle so when you look down, you see Central Park, so there didn't seem to be a lot of seating especially at the pool we went to everyday because of the opening, but they had that elevated seating which was fine......think I liked that even better as no one was right on top of you. I have to say that as many people that were on the ship, we never had a problem finding a chair at the pool. I guess because there were so many pools, plus the fact that there was lots of other things going on so people were pretty distributed throughout the ship.
There's a lot of places to eat free too. MDR, Windjammer, Park Cafe, Solarium, Wipeout Cafe, Dog House, Promenade Cafe and Sorrentos.
Two weeks on the ship and I think I stopped at the Promenade Cafe twice for a cookie and we never even ate at Sorrentos which was something I wanted to do. Come to think of it, I didn't even have a slice of pizza during the entire 2 weeks......LOL I was disappointed in the Windjammer, it was much smaller than all the other Windjammers. Guess that's why we only had lunch there maybe 3 times in the 2 weeks. Food wasn't even that great there so I mostly had salads. The windjammer didn't even have a egg/omelette bar where they made fresh eggs so honestly, we didn't eat breakfast there even once....LOL Oh yeah, Johnny Rockets is free for breakfast too. We mostly had breakfast at the Park Cafe.
My favorite part of the ship was Central Park.......it was very pretty!
The shows were all excellent......best I've seen on any ship so I really enjoyed them all. There was one headliner the 2nd week that we didn't care for but all the other shows we saw were great!
We all did a night at Rita's Fiesta which was a lot of fun. Kim won the dance contest.......LOL
There is so much going on around the ship that there's just not enough time to do it all. I really recommend for people to take 2 weeks on the ship just to see the entire ship......LOL I found the Library on the last day of the cruise........never even found the computer rooms......LOL I used my little ipod to check emails so didn't need to go to the computer rooms......LOL
They had a comedy club that only held 90 people but it was really cute. We went both weeks to the late comedy show and the comedians were hysterical. I liked it in the little comedy club vs the auditorium. There were lots of places to listen to music too..........seemed there was music all over the ship!
Now I wanna cruise again............boohoo

Patty, the Allure sounds wonderful. I think Mimi is still going in February on the Explorer. If we ever decide to cruise either the Allure or Oasis we would do back to back just to see the ship. We're going to sail on the Grandeur over Christmas this year out of Baltimore. Never been away for the holidays but we need something different and this cruise is over Christmas and New Years.

Hi Ann, I'm watching the NCL Gem out of New York for Christmas 2014. It's 11 nights but the price is too high right now. I'm hoping the price drops but may not because it's a holiday cruise. Does NCL still offer the next cruise or whatever they call it. We'll be on the Gem in September and I would purchase one if they still offer it.

I just wanted to pop in quickly and share some news with all of you. It looks like rather than a Christmas cruise, I may be saving up to go to Madagascar in May of 2015. Scott just got his mission call for our church. He is going to Madagascar. I think we may go pick him up when he is done with his mission. He goes into the missionary training center (MTC) to learn Malagasy on May 15th. We won't have him for very long between finals and when he heads back to Provo to the MTC.

I'm looking forward to the temps of 50's that they say we're getting next week.

I hope you get a real anniversary dinner one of these days. 50's would really be appreciated. It is snowing here again, not hard, but enough to be annoying. Hopefully it will fizzle before it gets to you.
In our church, many of the 19 (and now 18) year old young men, and some young women spend two years dedicated to teaching the gospel. There are missionaries all over the world, including in the US. We kept teasing Scott that he was going to Utah on his mission. You do not get to pick where you go or even exactly when. You apply to the church and give a date after which you are available. Scott has been waiting since the beginning of the year to hear back the decision on when and where he was going. I went to France and Belgium for 18 months when I was 21 and Ron went to Korea when he was 19.

Me and Tony went out last weekend and celebrated but the kids wanted to take us out. I'm sure they'll reschedule. It's very hard for both kids to come up with a time and date..........everyone has a different work schedule and our grandson has sports.

I hope it works out well for him. He is a born leader, so he definitely needs to share those talents.
Melissa thought about it and decided not to.

We got about 3 inches of snow here today and it has been brutal cold both here and in Cincinnati where I was working this week.
That sounds very exciting, Ann! Good luck to Scott on his mission.

Yes Patty, I will miss him. Especially since they are only allowed to call home on Christmas and on Mother's Day. Otherwise, they are required to "write" to their parents once a week.
He has been so good about keeping in contact at school, but Melissa said, just pretend it is her. I had the hardest time getting her to call, or even text when she was in Utah. She is back living at home now, so she can help keep me from being too lonely.

I can't believe how fast time flies. I would really love to cruise with all my buddies again some day. Maybe I can convince some of you to come and try NCL with me. Ron and I are doing an 11 day Southern out of Miami on the NCL Sun Feb of 2014.
Our New England/Canada cruise for this fall is booked full for the 14 day version and the north bound version and there are very limited cabin types left for the south bound portion.

Hi Theresa, Wow.........it's been 4 years already!!!! Doesn't seem that long ago to me. Something is wrong with CC and my email notifications. This is the first one I received in about a week! I keep emailing them telling them all my notifications stopped. Guess I'll wait till the end of today and see if I get any other.
Hope everyone here is doing well.

We were supposed to be on that cruise, but changed it and did the Bahamas cruise in Feb. Glad we did since I heard they hit a storm on the way down.

Thanks for the Mother's Day wishes. We had a really nice mother's day to top off a really crazy busy but nice weekend. Scott is getting ready to leave Wednesday very early in the morning. He will spend 10 weeks I think in Provo learning Malagasy and then will be off to Madagascar for the remainder of his 2 years of service. My nephew is going to believe it or not, Salt Lake City for his mission and leaves on June 2nd, so he was here this weekend with his parents as well. My sister from LA flew in with her daughter to see the boys to say good-bye and be here for Scott's farewell and for both boys (OK - men) going to the temple yesterday.
We had a great mother's day brunch this morning at my house with all of the family. I need to restart my diet tomorrow. Yesterday we went out for a buffet with family and friends from both PA (Where I grew up and my nephew still lives) and Ohio.
Did anyone have any really great Mother's Day stories to tell?

Hi Anne, Best wishes to Scott as he starts out on his 2 year mission! Wow, he must be so excited!
It really was a quiet mother's day here this year. We had my cousin's wedding in NY City yesterday and didn't get home till 1:30 am this morning so we both slept late this morning. Tony got up before me and went to our grandson's soccer game which was an hour away. They won 4/0 and our grandson made the first 3 goals so I was sorry I missed the game. I spent the day writing bills and food shopping. I didn't want to go out to eat today because I really hate eating out on days like this - to crowded and rushed. But I'm not cooking either so if anyone wants to eat we can order out........LOL I'm just tired today as yesterday was a long day but lots of fun!

Thanks Patty, that must have been some soccer game. Sleeping in and relaxing sounds good. After all the food from the past 2 days, I'm not going to have to eat for a week.

Save travels for Scott! A little over four years ago, he was a kid you asked us "to keep an eye on" during the cruise. Now he is grown and ready to leave on his mission. I wish him all the best!

It's a Buick Encore. I think the color is called Deep Espresso Brown.
She had all kinds of problems with her GMC Terrain. The transmission had to be worked on more than once, and she had something in the engine replaced. She broke down a couple of times on her way to work; once on the PA Turnpike. After the last time it broke down and then got fixed, she didn't feel safe driving it anymore, and got the new car.
