View Full Version : How early can you drop luggage off?

We'll be boarding the Eurodam in Copenhagen on Tuesday and I have a few last minute questions:

Is it possible to drop our luggage off earlier in the day and then continue touring Copenhagen for a few hours? Or do we need to check in and board with our luggage?

Has anyone ever checked in, boarded, and made special reservations (ones that you can't do online - like Canaletto dinners, Tamarind lunches, etc.) and then left the ship to continue touring the city?

OMG Candarocks - you are nearly 'outta here'. :) hope you have a great time.

Once the luggage check in is open, you can certainly drop it off. You don't have to check in at that time. Myself, I go for the check in, get my key card and THEN (assuming you have time & after I have put my valuables in the safe & dropped off my carry ons) leave the ship to do your wandering or browsing. :) You can just come back on, just make sure you are back on in the time required ;)

Have a wonderful time and a great cruise. Copenhagen is beautiful

Thanks so much Jacqui! We have 72 hour Copenhagen Cards, so I want to see and do as much as possible while we're there.

But I also like the idea of checking in and dropping stuff off in our stateroom. Hopefully we can do that quickly AND make our dining reservations before going back ashore for a little while.

Do you know if we can make specialty dining requests at the Front Desk or do we have to go to the actual restaurants?

For specialty dining, I think you need to go to the restaurants. I am pretty certain the fron desk can't do it. checking in is a plus as you have to check in at least 1 and 1/2 hours early (at least on most cruises I go on). That way, it's all covered. Havve a good one:D

For our only boarding in Copenhagen, 6 years ago, we were able to turn our bags in around 10:00a, but check-in didn't start until around 11:00, so an hour of sight-seeing was already "lost" ... but to not wait, we would have had to take our carry-ons with us all over. The pier we were at (one of two possible places) was about 4 miles NE of Tivoli Gardens, and there wasn't much to see right around the pier.

To make reservations at any dining venues, the easiest thing is to just pick up a phone and dial extension 88. If you prefer to talk face-to-face you can go to a steward podium which is usually in the vicinity of the Canaletto and make all reservations in that one place.

Thanks Carol! I will give HAL a call Monday morning to find out for sure what time we can leave our luggage with them.

We'll be docked at Freeport, which I know is a bit out of town.... but our Copenhagen Cards do cover the public transportation options. We'll probably decide for sure that day whether it's worth it to go wandering further.

Do you know if you can make Tamarind lunch reservations at that same Canaletto podium? But now that we have access to our rooms so early, your suggestion of just dialing #88 definitely makes sense too!

We just checked in at Maasdam, dropped our carryons in our cabin, made a salon appointment and left the ship to go with friends for lunch in Boston. We returned after lunch and proceeded to confirm our Pinnacle reservations and unpack. Our luggage had been delivered while we were off the ship.

IF you do that, be certain to have your photo ID with you as well as your ship's ID/key card. Also, inquire how you can bypass the check in line when you return and simply reboard the ship.

In Boston, we could have dropped our bags and not boarded but it's been years since we sailed out of Copenhagen so I don't remember the arrangment there, or it might have changed.

To make alternative reservations (if you are not in a deluxe veranda suite or PS), go to Lido and see the podium with a steward taking reservations. He can make any bookings you want. The podium is just outside Lido entrance.

I'm definitely going to call HAL to make sure. Thanks! :)

Great advice about taking the ID and bypassing the line, if we decide to disembark I'll make sure we do that!

And you don't have to call ext 88 from your room - there's house phones all over the ship. :)

Now see that's why I love this site (well, one of the reasons anyways! ;))...

I have never noticed "house phones" and this is my 4th HAL cruise! :o
I'll make a point of locating them this time!!

Have a great cruise Canadarocks. I was in Copenhagen in 2001 - wonderful city. I really enjoyed seeing all of the historical items on display in Rosenborg Castle - had wonderful old tapestries, and also had the Danish Royal jewels on display. I was a little disappointed in the Tivoli Gardens, as I was expecting something along the lines of Disneyland. While nice, Tivoli Gardens are much smaller.
