Hey Blue - The Conquest sails out of N.O. only, and this is the N.O. board. Duh.:D

UnVr - The Hilton Riverside would be your best bet....and sometimes they offer great deals for cruisers. Check out their website.

Morning Cotton:

I am assuming that you know New Orleans, can you tell me if the Hampton Inn & Suites Convention Center is close to the pier. We are also looking for a close hotel and this one seems close on the maps.
Thank you for your help

We're staying there.......great rate and breakfast included. Some people have said it's within walking distance, others say no way. The problem is you have to walk all the way around the convention center. It all depends on what your idea of walking distance is, how much luggage you have, and what the weather is. We're just going to check it out once we get there and then decide. I know some people have walked from the Embassy Suites, but, for the night I'm in NO, it's $80 more than the Hampton Inn. So, even if I have to take a taxi, it's still cheaper.

Isabelle - Cali's got the scoop on Hampton for you.:) It would be too much walking for me, especially pulling luggage. Cab fare will be $7pp from there to the terminal bldg. Sounds like a really good rate Cali got - I'd jump on that if I were you. You, too, UnVr.

Excuse me but when a message is in the new posts column all the different cruise lines are all mixed together. We have been on the Conquest a few years ago when it was brand new. It is a huge ship with people everywhere. Be prepared...... We have cruised out of New Orleans 3 times and used 3 different hotels while there.

our favorite was Courtyard New Orleans Convention Center

Ideas for you....
Omni Royal Orleans
Radisoon on Canal St
Travellodge on Baronne St
Hampton Inn in Convention Center
Courtyard by Marriott
Holiday Inn
Dauphine Orleans
Marriott on Canal
Sheraton
Ramada Inn on Bourbon
Dont stay at the Days Inn on Canal
Hilton Riverwalk is right at the port
Doubletree is one block fromthe port
Westin Canal Place is across the street from the port
Sheraton
La Meridian
Royal Sonesta is in the quarter
Radisson is on Canal Street

good places to eat: Mike Andersons, Ralph & Cacoas and in the Hilton - Rainforest Cafe

Hope this helps.....

Forgot to tell you. We did walk with our rolling suitcases to the ship ourselves after the free breakfast in the morning.

Blue, thank you so much for the information, it really is hard to find a hotel when you have no idea of the city structure. I come from a small town where a city block is not a "city block". I will check out your suggestions, and thanks again. Isabelle

The Holiday Inn on Convention Center Blvd isn't suppose to be far. That's where we are staying and hope to walk to the pier. I guess we will see.

Sea-U-Board,
Maybe after your cruise you could let us know how far the walk was and if it is do able? It would be much appreciated. We are not going till October and I can hardly wait. Thanks, Isabelle

Just look for my review in August. I will also post to the New Orleans board. Someone on that board told me it's not too bad of a walk. We are packing soda and water to take on - so if we have too much stuff we may still drop everything at the pier - take the car back to the parking at the Hotel (they use Fulton Street Garage) and then walk back from there. The plan is to take just roller luggage - no more than 2 per person and at least walk back after the cruise. I will let you know.

Cheryl,

I will be waiting anxiously for your review. I've heard the Conquest is a huge ship. I am already driving my hubby crazy and it's still 7 months away. LOL

I forgot to tell you that cabs in New Orleans are very expensive. That is why we opted to walk to the ship with all our luggage versus taking a cab ride over to the ship. Any hotel in the Convention Center will be within walking distance of the pier. If you stay in the French Quarter which is where it is the most fun ot hang out at night, then you will definitely have to cab to the ship. We stayed at the Courtyard Convention Center. They had a free breakfast in the morning. We arrived at the port about 1130am. We walked our bags right down to the ship. It was a semi long walk but definitely do able with rolling luggage. The convention center is really long. The entrance to the ships is right in the middle of the convention center. There is an opening and then you enter and just keep walking back and eventually you will be at the building where you hand in your luggage.

I was told by one of the hotels in the quarter that the cab fare is$10- cruise rate standard. Apparently they all charge the same for going to the cruise terminal. Surely that's a full cab not per person!!

They charge $10 for one person or $7pp two or more. One of the taxi rackets (like a flat fee from the airport) in New Orleans. Taxis are metered, but this is one of the cases where it doesn't matter.

The extra money is supposed to be for the excess luggage. And it doesn't matter if your hotel is across the street from the ship or somewhere in the French Quarter.

That sounds about right. There were 5 of us and I didn't want to spend $35 to get a ride for 3/4 of a mile so we rolled our suitcases all the way to the pier. It was such a rip off to pay $35 for a 5 minute ride.

Cali Croozer,

Where did you find such a great rate for the Hampton Inn? Their website is saying $159/night.
TIA

Are you saying that there is a way to get from Convention Center Blvd which is in front of the convention center to Port of New Orleans Place which is the road between the convention center and the port terminal? That this passageway goes through the center of the convention center? This would be great since we are staying at the Hampton Inn Convention Center which is a straight shot from the cruise terminal with the convention center in between.

Thanks!

I think Blue is talking about walking around the Convention Center. There is no way through it as far as I know. There is no way you could walk through it if there was an event anyway. There is a cement wall/fence that seperates the Center and terminal from the tracks also. The best entrance would be at The Riverwalk across the street from Mulate's.
