I am just curious, if HAL is going to upgrade you to different category stateroom when is this normally done and how are you notified?
Thanks in advance!

they have upgraded us and we never knew untill we got on the ship. this caused a few problems cause our tags had a different room number, it took us a couple hours to get it. I understand them upgrading an guarantee but we had booked the cabin we wanted and still got upgraded. to me both rooms was alike. just one on a higher deck. which to me isn't nothing. hope this helps alittle.:)

Notification depends on how you booked. If you used a travel agency, the TA would be notified to ask you if you wanted the upgrade. If you noted at time of booking (either TA or HAL) that you'd accept a free upgrade, then this might not happen.
The way to check is to go on the HAL website under "For Booked Guests" and select immigration form. After entering your booking number, passenger number, and last name, then select "print." It will come up on screen and show you what your stateroom number is at the time.
Upgrading can indeed happen at the last minute, so you wouldn't know until you reached the pier and checked in. If you're in doubt, ask for a rep to check the mainfest to confirm your stateroom number. You can then change your luggage tags.
Good luck.

Upgraded at least four times in the past three years. Our TA contacted us about a day in advance of our departures. In one case, she paged us at Charlotte as we were waiting for a connection to Ft. Lauderdale. We always knew before arriving at the pier. Good Luck.:)

Same thing happened to us - we went from a B to an A, just along the corriderl and didn't find out until we checked in. Then with the help of our cabin steward we had to go looking for our luggage as our old room number was on the luggage tags.

We sail in 66 hours (but who's counting!) and have no idea what our cabin# is, and a call to our internet-TA today did not help.
We booked this cruise 2 months ago because of a low advertised rate for an inside cabin, category N. At the time, when I asked the TA on the phone if I could have some say in cabin selection (really, I only wanted to eliminate 4 possibilities near elevators), she spoke to HAL and came back to me with "only category NN is available. Run of ship-- you could get a balcony!!". I took this with a grain of salt and decided to expect the worst. That being said, it still seems as though I could be given a cabin number (however temporary, since I understand we could get bumped up but not down at this last minute)since we sail so soon. My questions are: has anybody with Run Of Ship found out their cabin# in advance? At what point does HAL stop selling cabins--do they sell up to minute we leave port? (I thought not, since they have to order food, supplies, etc.) I tried the immigration form suggestion, but it says cabin 000.
