Once we check in and get our ID card can we disembark at the cruise terminal for shopping and reboard just like a regular port stop?

Once we check in and get our ID card can we disembark at the cruise terminal for shopping and reboard just like a regular port stop?Sure! And now with rooms being ready early, you can dump your carry-ons first.

Yes, you can. Be sure to bring your Ship's ID, as always, and photo ID.
Hi Ginger and Professor..... nice to see you posting. :)

Hi Ginger and Professor..... nice to see you posting. :)
But aren't you subject to waiting in line, again, to go through security?

But aren't you subject to waiting in line, again, to go through security? You can bypass lines in the terminal, but everyone has to go through the ship-board scanning of ID cards and carry-ons, just like at any port.

You can do it in Vancouver, but you will have to go through US Customs again and wait on that line.

We by-passed the check in line in FLL, Montreal and in Boston. Tell them you have already checked in and you only have to go through security check.
It's obvious you have checked in as you already have your ID.

I am a local San Diegan. I have two shopping suggestions: Horton Plaza and Seaport Village. Both are in walking distance of the ship. Also the Midway is interesting to visit if you have the time (docked very close to the ship).

I have done that cruise! It is wonderful and I didn't have to take a flight as I live in San Diego.

San Diego to Tahiti.Once you check in at San Diego, you can leave the ship and return as many times as you like. You will need to go through security again each time you re-board though.
We found it easiest re-boarding after 2:30 pm when there were no longer any lines at all and we could walk right through.
There is a drugstore about 3 blocks from the pier, handy for picking up those last minute items after dropping off all our luggage and carry-on stuff.

San Diego -- lots to do there.
You might want to get a taxi and go down to Seaport Village -- or go over the Horton's Plaza -- or even to Ralphs -- last minute items, liquor and wine.

You can also get a trolley ticket for $5 each (ride all day). It goes to Old Town (wonderful Mexican food, I especially like Old Town Mexican Cafe), Fashion Valley, Seaport village etc. It is only a couple of blocks from the ship, just past the Amtrack station.

Don't lose track of the time. Remember to get back aboard in plenty of time. :)
