We are booked on the Eurodam this August from Dover to New York, via Iceland, Greenland etc

I really can't decide if I should splash out on a Retreat Cabana or not, and if so which location is best?
Our last cruise was a 7 day Caribbean and we had a beautiful SC suite with the aft balcony. That wasn't an option for this long routing, so we have a basic verandah. I thinking maybe a Retreat cabana would go some way to making up for missing the amazing suite balcony.

With the variable weather we will probably have, hot at the start of the cruise, then cold up near Greenland...... would it be better to have a glass fronted cabana, or the aft facing ones that are open with rails?

Can you always get shade in your cabana?
If you don't drink wine or champagne, is there any alternative offered?

I have read all the cabana posts on here, but any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you

I have had the same question and have not gotten much information. I asked HAL when I called to book something else and while their employee was polite and friendly, they did not have much information I found useful.

If I hear anything, I'll let you know. We must be on the same cruise ;)

Our cabana experience was fantastic! I highly recommend renting one. We were on the Eurodam last summer in the Baltic Sea and we were the only ones who had rented a cabana. We were shocked!! Each cabana has 2 loungers and a table and chairs that seats 2. The service is fantastic. Neither my husband or I drink alcohol so we had water, tea and sodas instead. Not sure what the other options are alcohol-wise. We had a cabana that faced the lido pool, the first one to the left of the split where the stairs are. I liked this location because you had sea views as well as ship views, I liked the openness of this cabana as opposed to the plexiglass on the side cabanas, I found them not as breezy and airy. Of course in colder weather you might find this a disadvantage, for me I'd be happy to just dress warmer in exchange for the "unobstructed" view. Just makes the cabana feel bigger. There were times of the day that we did get direct sun inside but it wouldn't last long. I assume this would be the case in any of the cabanas, depending on the time of day and location of the sun. For the most part though it is shady. The middle section with all the loungers and sofas/chairs has sun all day. Waiter service is 9:00 am - 5:00pm but there were plenty of times we went to hang out in the cabana after hours as well. All in all we got lots of usage out of it and we are renting another one on the Nieuw Amsterdam this December.

Thanks for your really helpful reply Relda. We have gone ahead and booked one, I requested a location with the open rails, although I'm still not sure if we will freeze in the North Atlantic!
Were you able to have complimentary sodas instead of the champagne?

As I mentioned before, the most of the other cabanas were empty for our cruise - if that is the case on your cruise maybe you can use a side cabana that is empty on days when the weather is colder. We moved around a bit to get the feel of all the cabanas and the service people didn't care at all.

My husband did request soda a few times and they brought it no problem. Mainly I drank water as I've been off soda for a few years :D

Have a blast!!!

My wife and i had one on the n.amsterdam, and we love it we are going go back again in november and we have a familly one booked already. Well worth the money if you want a place to just relax and enjoy your self. They brought us what ever we asked for and more. We even got in trouble for going to the buffet and getting our own food. One of them seen us in line and said they would of gladly gotten it for us. They brought us Iced tea and lemonade all day, my wife got coffe and ice coffe. Pretty much what ever you want. You dont get a choice thou which one you get, and they are assigned the day we arrived. If you have any other questions feel free to ask
