What's the average price for a cocktail on the Vista class ships? Are more simple drinks (scotch and soda) less expensive than more complex drinks (lemon drop)?
Thanks

It's not the complexity but the brand of hooch that makes the difference. I believe we paid between 4.95 and 9.95 (+ 15%, of course!)

We just cruised on the Odam (Pres. day week) and my husband and I agreed that the drinks were priced well. $4-$6 for whiskey and gin ect. Also, great prices on the "drink of the day". I think around 3.75 for a lemon drop. I have read postings about these drinks being watered down but after drinking a couple of lemon drops one night and Cosmos another I was ready to dance in Northern Lights until 3 am. Buzz, buzz. I ordered drinks in Maui this January and payed $10-$12 per drink. You will find this in most popular vacation spots, hotels and cities so I would say HAL still offers a great price list for both drinks and wine (glass of wine starts at $4).

DW and I travel quite a bit and feel the prices in the HAL bars are not at all overinflated. In general, much less than you would expect to pay in a nice hotel bar. Especially in a bar in NYC, LA or San Fran. I found the prices to be just about the same as we pay in the average restaurant or bar here in Pittsburgh, PA.

I drunk "Lemon Drop" as a special of the day for 3.75...There is different special drink every day.

I think the drink o' the day was more like $4.95. I'll check my scrapbook when I get home!
As far as the Lemon Drops, I had two -- one right after the other -- and felt no effect. Same with the Cosmos when they were the drink o' the day.

On all of the ships I`ve been on in the last couple of years, it has been $3.75 for the drink of the day. They also have half price happy hours in different bars and at different times each day, keep an eye on your daily programme for places and times.............jean

They were $3.75 on the Zui a few weeks ago. Oh, and that cucumber melon splash was absolutely delicious! It was like drinking a spa treatment!

Also, I think $6.95 for a martini is darn good - we can't get that here in Denver... it's more like $9.95
I've yet to see a drink of the day that wasn't $3.75 - a steal.

On our January Westerdam cruise I really didn't check the individual drink prices BUT.....
Every night DW had a "drink of the day" and I had a "martini of the day" and the total with 15% gratuity was $10.01. That amount was on all of our bar slips so it stuck in my head!

I live near Boston, and I work in Cambridge between MIT and Harvard. Any bar I go into has martini-type drinks for $8 to $14! A glass of wine averages about $6.75 (house wine). I feel a lot better about my potential bar bill reading this thread!:p
My opinion is that part of the issue with cost of drinks on board is the "shock" of getting a tab that you have run for 7 to 14 days. If you take a moment to calculate it, you are probably paying about what you would if you were at home and going for cocktails every evening, plus having a glass of wine or a beer with dinner....the thing is, you never get that all totalled up at home!:o
Of course, the other part of the issue is probably that people don't have cocktails and beer/wine at dinner every night at home! :D It's Friday night every night on a cruise, huh?

Ignoring the price issue, does anyone else think that the shipboard drinks were not as strong as regular drinks? Susan.

Hey Suz
You got a point there.....
On my Mexico cruise, I did notice a few times that my scotch seemed 'weak'. But guessing it was how it was poured. In one bar, the barkeep put in 10 tons of ice, so it was like drinking a Dewars sno-cone.......
But have to say the majority of my scotches were bountiful in taste, and volume. I guess it depends on the 'mood' of that bartender.

Yes, and to clarify my original point, I am definitely not accusing HAL of watering their liquor. I simply think that they pour a small shot compared to American bar portion size. Maybe it's the "Super-Size-Me" mentality. I remember many years ago, finding that the standard drink in England was much smaller than what I was used to. That may have changed.
That said, I think the prices are too high. I think the drinks are too short. And yet I still enjoy every last one of them. Susan.

Are Pina Coladas ever the drink of the day? Look for me under a lounge chair that day if it is?

Aboard the Oosterdam, Oct. 31, 2004 sailing. Cocktails of the Day:
Oct. 31, 2004, Welcome Aboard! Hand-shaken Mojitos, $4.75
Nov. 1, 2004, Half Moon Cay. Hand-shaken Cosmos, $4.75
Nov. 2, 2004, At sea. Champagne Dreams, $4.75
Nov. 3, 2004, Ocho Rios. Hand-shaken Lemon Drops, $4.75
Nov. 4, 2004, Georgetown, Grand Cayman. Hand-shaken Margaritas, $4.75
Nov. 5, 2004, Cozumel. Spiced Daiquiris, $4.75
Nov. 6, 2004, At sea. Hand-shaken Lime Smashes, $4.75.
I tried all of the above except for the champagne and the daiquiris.
As far as strong vs. weak drinks, I would say mine were weak. But still yummy.
I did go to different bars -- not always the same place.
The non-alcoholic "mocktails" run $2.75, according to my daily programs.

Trubey, the drinks haven`t gotten any larger in England!! Just returned from a months vacation there and after having one scotch in a pub, I decided to stick with lager and lime. Their shot is 3/4 oz, about half of a shot in the US. Also the cost is riddiculous! about $5 for a shot.........jean
