Can we expect a formal night on the May 5 San Diego to Vancouver repositioning? The only 3 day we've done is the Disney Wonder and on that ship there wasn't a formal night. But, it seems this repositioning is also advertised as a 10 day Alaska departing San Diego with the first stop in Vancouver. Some of us our getting off there but evidently not all. It makes me wonder if one of the first 3 nights will be formal.

Any ideas?

Last September I was on the four night repositioning cruise of the STATENDAM from Vancouver to San Diego. On that trip there were no formal nights, but there was one informal night.

The number of casual nights, informal nights and formal nights (if any) will be printed in your ticket booklet when it arrives. HAL provides this information in advance, and I find it very helpful. I wish all lines would do it.

There was a Dutch Night during my four night trip last year; something that was sorely missed on my recent seven night Western Caribbean VEENDAM cruise!

Calliope - thanks for the reply. It sounds like I'll just have to wait for my ticket book to know for sure. But as you said, at least they do let us know in advance. My husband and I can travel extremely lightly if no formal clothes to pack.

Call HAL. I'm sure they have that information!

If I remember correctly during the repositioning cruise from LA to Vancouver, after returning from our Hawaii cruise, there was no formal night.

I'll probably give them a call this weekend. Also, how far in advance can we expect to get our tickets booklet?

I've been on HAL five times, and, except for the time when I booked an Alaskan trip a week before sailing, the tickets have generally come about a month before departure.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm wondering what I'll get first, tickets or cabin assignment. Only 8 weeks to go - I need my cruising fix.
