It also helps to alleviate the sadness of leaving the ship because you know you have another cruise in your future!

It can be used for 30 day cruises, but not 45 day cruises. Sure wish it could. The maximum is either 35 or 36 day cruises. Someone should be able to answer on the maximum days.

Can you combined this credit with the Shareholder Credit? On a 14 day or longer cruise that is $250 for the shareholder credit.
Also, how do the credit work vs the every $300 spent earns you an extra cruise day in your Mariner account?

Yes
On our cruises we get $300 from ANEX Plat; $200 from Future Cruise credit and $250 from Carnival on our 14 day and longer cruises.

Credits are irrelevant. The bonus days are based only on spending on board or before.

The on board spending credits are totally separate. When you buy FCCs on board you won't be charged to your shipboard account- they will be charged directly to your credit card. So it is almost as if you didn't buy them on board.
And I know, excursions purchased in advance do count towards on board spending credits, even tho they aren't charged to your on board account. Just the rules of the game.

Is it for new bookings only? I thought I read in an earlier thread that future cruise credits could be purchased for already booked future cruises and that shipboard credit would be applied to that future cruise. Maybe I misunderstood....?

No, the benefit is not retroactive to any bookings existing before one purchases the Future Cruise Credit onboard a sailing.
There may be times, I don't know, when people have had an existing booking, then purchased a Future Cruise Credit while onboard ... then cancelled the original reservation and rebooked the cruise using their onboard-purchased credit. In so doing, one chances losing the original price, cabin, dining time, booked shore excursions, etc.

We bought 3 FCC on our last cruise, one for DH, DS10 and myself. When we booked our Alaska cruise over a year ago we put DS in the cabin with grandpa and grandma so they didn't need to put a deposit down either, DS FCC held the cabin. When we get on the ship we have to move DS into our cabin in the system. The other suggestion we were given was to put the two women in one cabin and the guys in the other.
We are looking at booking a cruise for March Break but think we will wait until we get on board to do so, will save so much. (But we will buy our air fare now while the US flight industry is in confusion).

My parents are very generously taking myself and husband, and my 6 siblings and their spouses on a cruise to Alaska next year. That is a total of 16 of us in 8 separate cabins.
By purchasing FCC's on board for each of us, their total deposit for booking this cruise was only $1600 as opposed to $8000+! They are then able to make monthly payments for the next year to make it an affordable adventure.
Then the OBC's for each of us go towards paying the Automatic Service Charge.
It is an awesome way for them to be able to afford to take us all on a memorable family trip, it helps defray the service charge cost for my siblings who wouldn't be able to afford to cruise on their own, and it makes the dream become a reality as it is now booked!
We always buy FCC's on board, even if we don't book a specific cruise. It is as close to a booking as you can get, so even though I may not have a confirmed date, I know I really do have another cruise booked in my future. I'm just not clear on the where and when! :)
I am a lucky girl with generous parents who like to cruise HAL as much as I do. I'm closing in on that 4 star Mariner status. Can't wait to get that laundry package for free! I think I must head back over to HAL's site and look at itineraries again. I can already feel the sun and the hot sand under my feet! And look - there is my room steward turning down my bed now! I think it's time to use another FCC! :)

As a reminder, FCCs may now be used for 3rd and 4th passengers in the same cabin, essentially doubling your OBCs.

Camp your information is NOT correct. You can in fact apply a Future cruise deposit on a booking that is already booked but final payment can not have been made as long as that the orignal deposit was not a Future Cruise Deposit and was a regular deposit. You can only apply one future cruise deposit for first and second passenger......well actually they will apply a future cruise deposit more than once but you get no extra ship board credit so why waste using the future cruise deposit unless you badly need the extra money placed on the account.

I had not heard that FCC's could be applied to the 3rd and 4th passengers where you were able to get the OBC's for them. When did this policy change, and where did you find this information?
I knew you could use the $100 for their deposit, but I understood that you could only get the OBC's for the first 2 passengers in a cabin.
I am interested in knowing if this policy has actually changed recently, as it would affect a lot of people who buy FCC's.
Thank you in advance for letting me know where to find this info. :)

Thank you for clarifying ... I believed what I had posted to be accurate and I am glad that you came back and explained how it now works.
But, is it new that it can be applied to current bookings? The last cruise credit confirmation I have indicates for new bookings only ... as does the info posted by KK above. I'm confused ... when did this change?

I am not so sure that it could not always be used I think the mistake or misunderstanding is that it can only be used one time for the first and second passenger. If the deposit to do the original booking was made with a Future Cruise Deposit you cannot use another to try to double the ship board credit BUT.... you can use another to have extra monies applied toward a booking. I have actually seen where HAL messed up and appied two Future Cruise Deposits for the first passenger and one for the second passengers and the deposit showing was $300 and I had to questions this.
It definitely is no problem to have a booked cruise, then go on a ship purchase more and come home and apply that Future cruise deposit you just purchased on a cruise you already have booked but paid the normal deposit on.

I hope that this isn't deemed as hijacking the thread, but I have a question on FCC's.
I have a cruise booked for March 2012, with final payment date in early January 2012. this was booked through the FCC on our last cruise.
If I decide to cancel this cruise is it necessary to 'nominate' another cruise or may I just cancel and hold the FCC's until I need to use them (within their 4 year life)?

They will go back into your Mariner Account, to be used at some future date, within their 4 year "life".

We were notified of the change on our Nieuw Amsterdam cruise in July 2010. We have used FCCs for all four of us since then.

In 2010 we had major damage done to our house because of a snow storm and had to cancel a cruise -- deposits went back into our "bank" for a later cruise to be picked by us.
Then again this year I fell the night before we were to fly to Ft Lauderdale and had to cancel that cruise -- again our deposits went back into our "bank".
