View Full Version : Oosterdam Door Bells Door Bell Buttons?

A question.
Many staterooms on the Oosterdam have verandas.
I was wondering if the staterooms have door bells (chimes?) and are there door bell buttons at the door so you would know if you have a visitor?

We've never been on the O'dam, but we haven't had a doorbell on any of our six veranda cabins on the other three Vistas and the Nieuw A.

Al, there is not a Door Bell to be found on a HAL cabin door. I am not even sure if there is one on the Penthouse
So Final Answer..... No Door Bells :D
But there might be some coconuts ;)

I remember having a door bell on one of the ships, but I can't remember which one it was on. It was either in the PS on the Rotterdam or the PS on the Volendam. It sounded more like a buzzer than a doorbell though, and you could hear it on the veranda as well as in the suite. Now you have me wondering, and I will have to go through old photos to see which one it was.

We have been in several Penthouses on various ships and there was a doorbell (buzzer) on a few of them -- sorry can't remember which ships.
I also think that on the Zaandam I think the Deluxe Suites had a buzzer that we could hear out on the Verandah.

We had a bell when we were on the Zaandam from San Diego to Hawaii. It rang on the verandah which was great. I often wonder why they don't have them on all the ships. Lots of times we order from room service and sit out on the verandah and have to be aware of listening for the room service steward.

Absolutely - if this could be on all the ships it would be so nice. I have knocked and knocked at friends doors (who were expecting me), but if they are both out on the verandah they can't hear you.
I haven't seen a buzzer yet on a verandah or deluxe verandah. We did have on in the only PH we have had:)
If HAL wants to make an improvement this would be a big one IMO :) Hate that one of us has to be inside to wait for room service or visitors.

We had one for the deluxe verandah (SA) on the Rotterdam but that was the first time we ever looked for one! We've been in SA's on the Ryndam, Volendam and didn't notice - nor on th A/B on the Maasdam. I will keep my eyes peeled on the Zuiderdam.

I was thinking the same thing. After a few cocktails let`s go doorbell ringing.:) The PH and Suites will be our first victims.:)

I thought I had remembered a buzzer on our Deluxe Verandah on the Zaandam.
KK I remember one of our Suites having one too but I am pretty sure it was the Amsterdam and not the Zaandam. So I took a look at pictures from our Zaandam cruise, we were there for my Birthday and they had decorated our door and I had taken a picture of it so I looked and there was definitely no door bell. I am 99% positive it was on the Amsterdam where we had that door bell. I know that none of the Vista or Signature Class have them and also we have been on all of the S Class ships and none of their S Suites had them there either.

Just looked at pictures of the Volendam and there's a doorbell for our deluxe suite. Don't remember anybody ever ringing it though. :)

Now that's what I like, a true consensus!
It appears that I'll have to run a long string under the door, then up the wall, through a pulley, across the ceiling to the far wall, through another pulley, and then down the wall about halfway and tie it to a bell of some kind.
That'll work.
Either that or tell any visitors that they need to go up to the Lido deck and and then repel down.

There was a buzzer that we could hear on our balcony on the Rotterdam. It was a Deluxe Verandah Suite - Suite 7030. We could actually hear the neighbors bell when we were on our balcony and they were getting room service. Not obnoxious though. Very handy.

OK, I know I'm going to get grief for this comment, but I don't like the idea of every cabin having a doorbell. It seems like too much noise to me. I can just see it now...ding/dong....I get out of bed, put my robe on, open the door, only to discover it's my neighbor that has a visitor, not me. Happy Sailing!

I know R Class has them but not sure if it's all ships in the class or just some. Would assume S Class too.
Vista/Signature Class - Nope (not even on the Penthouse at least for Eurodam)
Prinsendam - No idea to be honest but I doubt it

DBA, I think of the R Class, only Rotterdam and Amsterdam have the Door bell and that is it. I have been in a few S Suites on the S Class ships and none of them had the door buzzer. For some reason they felt that those two ships needed the buzzer :)

It must have been on Rotterdam that I saw those doorbells. I really wanted to try one out to see if they worked!

Just checked my Maasdam pictures and I can't see a doorbell on our deluxe suite. For some reason I don't always take a picture of our cabin door so I don't have one to look at for the Oosterdam, Ryndam, or Veendam so can't say one way or the other. For certain there is a doorbell on the Volendam.

I beg to differ with you. The Zaandam was our first HAL cruise and I remember quite well that we had a door bell. On subsequent cruises on the Noordam, Zuiderdam, Eurodam and Ryndam we did not have a door bell. Just sayin'...

The luxe S suites on the Rotterdam have a door bell ( buzzer)
Very handy when you are on the balcony.

Well maybe they removed them my November 2006 or added it after if you sailed after Nov 2006  when we were in a Suite across the hall from the Neptune. I looked at all of the pictures and I took pictures because it was my birthday cruise and there were balloons on the door and there was definitely NO door bell or buzzer. I do however remember there being one for our Alaska cruise on the Amsterdam a few years ago. I have been on two R Class Ships both in S Suites and in all our cruises there was only one cruise that had the door buzzer.

*LOL* The doorbells for suites on the Amsterdam aren't ON the door, they are on the wall just to the left (or right) of it. Word of warning: the bell doesn't ring inside the cabin - it does ring ON the verandah, though! At least it that's how it worked(or didn't) in our cabin! ;)

Randy, actually I do remember it being on the side wall for the Amsterdam:) But for the Zaandam the picture I have of the door includes the whole wall area and no Door Bell.

Definitely on the Rotterdam we had them. It was so nice. No staying in the cabin to wait for either room service or guests. We could hear the door bell on the verandah. Absolutely loved it:D

In relation to this issue, I was wondering: We have a wrap-around SC on the Oosterdam in November and had considered doing the course-by-course dinner on our verandah one night after a tiring port day. It doesn't seem like it would be a very relaxing dinner if we had to sit inside between courses listening for the door knock. Is there another way around that besides leaving the door ajar using the deadbolt?

We sailed the Zaandam in 2008, for what it's worth.

If you are doing course by course dining you will have no issues. They will most likely leave the door ajar a smidge so they can come and go.
enjoy:D:D
