View Full Version : Ever read the ads above the threads?

I just noticed that some, if not all, the ads above the threads will be directly related to the subject matter. I first noticed it the other day while reading the thread started by "Himself" about Catholic priests onboard HAL cruises. Then, just now, I hit a few other obvious threads and, sure 'nuff, the ads are specific.

Anyone else noticed this? Or is the plane landing late at my airport?

I noticed that when I was on the threads for disabled cruisers.
The ads were diability-related.

That's one of the "benefits" of using Google's "adSense (https://www.google.com/adsense/?sourceid=ASO&subid=US-HA-Jan0605)".

tomc, I noticed that also on the thread posted by Himself.

Dave, thanks for the interesting link. Seems I've learned a new word there - monetize (!) - I assume it means more bang for the buck.

Think I'll double check to see if my ad blocker is properly set, then go to Adaware and see whose cookies have shown up today.

Not if I can help it... I am tired of seeing that headlight stay on the page while it's loading or changing back...

I don't have ads above the threads anymore. Not since the seasick patch one. Guess I'm just special;) .

Whoops! Sorry ... you're right! I see that one. but's more than just a headlight, it keeps switching to people with baloons.

Not a very good ad if I didn't even notice it:o .

Either that or I'm just paying attention!:D

There's the ad on the left in color, and there are also a bunch of little ads across the top. As I type this, one is "Holland America Cruise," another is "The Windjamer Experts," another is "Holland America Deals," and there is another for RCI which I can't quite make out in the compose mode.

Check the thread by "Himself" and you will see, in that line of print ads, all kinds of Catholic things. Then look at other threads and those top ads will switch around. At least, some of them will.

I don't have any ads on any threads on my home computer---just looked over the main list and a few individual threads. How'd I get so lucky?

I'm sure my computer at work must show ads; I think.
I don't see 'em. (focus, focus, focus)

I also don't see the ads in the newspaper!

Norton Internet Security eliminates ads and pop ups if you choose those options. I see no ads at the top of the CC board.

You don't see anything beneath "CC Logowear" "Member Cruises" "Newsletters" "New Posts" "Search" "Quick Links" ??

Are the voices telling me to see things that aren't there?

No.
On the page with the list of threads, under the CC Logowear, etc. there is an inch, or so, of white space. To the left side is a spot labled "new thread". To the right is the list of page numbers.
On this page there's only about 1/4 inch of white space.
That's all.

Are the voices telling me to see things that aren't there?
Maybe.

I just went to the thread I started yesterday: "Meatloaf lovers of the World Unite" and the ads at the top change to:

Alfredo Sauce.....Sun-Dried Pesto......Chili Recipe......Pesto Sauce...!!!

Please, don't anybody start a thread with an off-color title. Who know what might show up!

And what's even more terrifying, I went back to the meatloaf thread again to show this phenomenon to my wife and it had changed to different ads:

Pizza Sauce Recipe....BBQ Sauce to Die for....Pesto Sauce.....Betty Crocker...

We're entering the twilight zone!

EDIT I just posted with some double-meaning terms and the ads stayed normal. Shows something: I have toooo much time and not enough to do with it.
