I'm curious about the difference between Verandahs on the Zuiderdam. We booked a Deluxe Verandah Outside (VC), but what is the difference between that and (VA) (VB)? I'm assuming that it's strickly the deck that the verandah is on. Which is best/worst?

Thanks,

Albert

Great question! I want to know the answer to that one myself! I booked a VB but it was merely luck.

Albert, as a fellow Albert, you must be the last person with the name to actually go by it! Loosen up Big Al!!!

As for your question, I would venture that it has something to do with the level of the deck, but I'm not sure. Possibly dakrewser, 2rg, or one of the other veterans cruisers around here can shed some light.

VA is mid-ship or on the stern or bow, VC is on the side at the front or back, VB is between VA and VC.

I have read that the higher decks are valued as a better cabin since there are fewer cabins on the upper decks (more suites) thus fewer people in the hallways. The midship cabins are supposed to have less rocking motion and that would make them more valuable. So considering the ships motion, and if you are prone to seasickness try to stay lower and midship. It's a personal preference more than anything. The more you read on these boards the more you find out why people like different locations. I have only been on 3 cruises so I am still determining where my ultimate cabin location is. (budget is my first priority)

Next to the infirmary?

There's now A, BA, BB, B, C, CC, D, E maybe even F. Soon each cabin will have it's own category!

If my memory is correct :) the balconies are slightly larger on cabins in the bump-out part of the ship, both fore & aft.

On the Vista class ships you also have to be very careful in that some of the VF and VC categories have solid steel railings instead of plexiglass. They are located primarily on the Upper Promenade deck forward.

A couple of other reasons that midship cabins may be considered more valuable/expensive than fore/aft cabins: you have less noise from the engine (back) or anchor (front) and you're in a more central location, so it's easier/faster to get to other parts of the ship. If you're aft and want to go to the spa, for example, you've got a long hike.

On the other hand, I've always figured that fore/aft cabins have less traffic in the hallways. Midship cabins seem more likely to have someone staggering by, singing lustily, at 2 a.m....
