I have tried searching the forum but cannot find what I am looking for. Can anyone help?
We are thinking of taking a 24 day collector cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam next year. This is 2 x 12 day B2B cruises.
At the end of the first 12 days we will have reached 4 star Mariner level :D. I know that (except Grand Voyages) your level is not upgraded during a cruise but what about a Collectors cruise? As this is really 2 cruises combined will we get 4 star Mariner perks on the second 12 days?

Unfortunately not. We were in the same boat in January where we jumped from two to three star but we didn't get the credit until it was too late. It takes around ten days for the system to update so it won't show up in time.

Sorry - you will not get any benefits for becoming a 4 star Mariner at the end of the first segment since you booked the cruise as ONE cruise.
Also with the new concept of Collector's Cruises -- you also will only be invited to only one Mariner Brunch -- at the end of the second segment.
I know because we have done a few Collector's Cruises.

Sorry but it gives you a great excuse to take another cruise.

We also moved up a notch during the first secment of our collector's cruise. Because we booked it as one cruise, I didn't expect a change between segments. I was surprised that we got a second bottle of champagne in our suite and a second "corsage" for the second segment. Our Mariner Brunch was at the end of the first segment (7 days). There may not have been a brunch at the end of our second segment (3 days), as that was the first 3 days of a much longer cruise. Do they do the brunch for a short-hop cruise?

I just did a collector's, the TA and 12 Baltic on Rotterdam July 12, July and July 21. I received the 100 day medallion level on the first cruise even though I needed those days to get it in the second cruise but I was given the medallion on the first cruise. I guess it was counted as one cruise but I got the medallion then and not on another cruise. I was invited to the Mariner lunch on the first cruise. Do star levels and medallions have different ways of being awarded?

Yes I believe they are awarded differently. Medallions are still awarded on board whereas our star pins etc came through Seattle. When you take a Collectors cruise, it is one cruise.

When did this change? We were on the Maasdam in Feb 2011 on a Collectors Cruise and were invited to both Mariner Brunches.

Thank you everyone for your replies. This is what I was afraid of although I was hoping it might not be so.
It would have been nice to get the 4 star perks on the second part of the cruise - apart from the Neptune Lounge (which I am not all that keen on) the 4 star perks are almost as good as a Deluxe suite. We tend to pick SY cabins on Vista and Signature as we feel they are excellent value for money.
I may even look into booking it as 2 cruises and see what the cost difference is or just book the 12 day cruise and another later in the year.

Do star levels and medallions have different ways of being awarded?
Yes, normally, although there may be exceptions.
Medallions are awarded based on actual days sailed. You qualify for the medallion if you will reach the required number of days during the cruise you are on. That's when it's normally awarded.
Star levels are counted based on credited days, which may include double days for certain cabin categories, as well as credit for spending. Normally, you move up to another star level on the cruise after you meet the number of days requirement.
One exception to this is when one is sailing a Grand Cruise. If you pass a star level threshold on a Grand cruise, you receive the benefits on the next segment.

We were on a November/December 2010 Collectors Cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam and were only invited to the second Mariner's Brunch. Maybe it varies by ship or was changed in 2011. It seems quite a few Mariner perks vary by ship and sailing.

I received my 100 day medalion during a 7 day cruise on the NA last March. I am sailing on the NA again this December on a 14 day B2B. Just wondering if I will be invited to the 2 Mariners' lunches.....also, do people usually take their medalions with them to wear at these lunches, or would that be considered a little "tacky" After the ceremony where the Captain awarded us the medalions, we went as a group to the MDR for the luncheon. I sat with a lady who had sailed over 600 days and another who had over 500 days.....they had also been invited to the award reception before the lunch!!!

We always wear our Medallions to the Mariners Luncheon and definitely are not the only ones doing so. That's why they are awarded to us. :)

I, too, always wear my medallion to the reception, then to the dining room. At some point, when the food is being served, I remove the medallion and put it away. No sense letting it dangle in the dish! ;)
