There is no smell like....cruise documents!!

I was cleaning up my desk on the weekend and I happened upon some docs from a long past cruise. They still smelled wonderful!! They felt wonderful!! My heart fluttered as I opened the "old style" cruise tickets, (when they actually looked like tickets, I just don't get these new tickets). My blood pressure spiked as I looked at my itinerary, my cabin number, my flight info!!

No wonder I don't do drugs...I seem to get a better high from 30 small pages of paper stapled together...and it's legal!!

I think I need professional help. Anyone else have this affliction...what's it called??

I'm with you Danno. When I get my documents, I practically have them memorized before it's time to depart and you should see my "document dance." http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Old documents are full of wonderful memories. Sigh....

Sorry to say it sounds like you are suffering from the very serious "NINACF" Syndrome*. It is usually characterized by heart palpitations, deep breathing and euphoria, so your spiking blood pressure is not untoward. There are reports of people actually spinning around rooms when they inhale lingering aromas from documents. Sometimes temporary blindness occurs as a result of the victim not being able to see clearly -- CAUTION: This includes not being able to decipher bottom lines and bank balances and many people have erringly added too many zeroes to numbers to the left of a decimal. This false sense of $ecurity frequently causes patients to indiscriminately book cruises.

According to the SSMJ (Seven Seas Medical Journal), NINACF Syndrome is very contagious. It is also addictive. Many Public Health Departments are now being urged to prepare intervention programs for people who have kept previous cruise documentation.

So far, the most successful(only 30%) antidote for NINACF Sydrome is to send the patient to a floating facility for a four to six week treatment consisting of gourmet meals, relaxing poolside therapy, field trips into a variety of ports, staring off into vast open stretches of water and being waited on hand and foot.

Hang in there, Danno. While there is no hope for a cure, professionals believe NINACF Syndrome CAN be managed. Good luck.

Danno,

Have you forgotten about the "cruise junkie" thread and the FOD support group that we started for you?

Below is your original email with your symptoms:

"It's now offical...I have met all the criteria to be classed a "cruise junkie". My only hope is there is treatment available and my group insurance will cover it.

Not sure if you too are afflicted...take this test.

1)Do you keep cruise brochures and magazines in the bathroom??

2)Do you spend WAY too much time on Cruise Critic??

3)Do you have your TA's phone number on speed dial? Her home number also??

4)Have you studied the brochures so well that you know the floor plan of your favorite ship better than that of your own home??

5)Do you check out the travel section of EVERY book store you enter knowing full well that you already have every book ever written about cruise ships.

6)Do you await the new publication of the "Berlitz Cruise Guide" with the anticipation you once reserved for Christmas morning.

7)Has your monetary system changed from one of dollars to cruises...i.e. "WOW the car cost 10 cruises"!!

8)Do you know who Jack Williams is but don't know who your local member of parliment (insert congressman if you are south of the 49th) is??

9)Do you scrutinize your cruise tickets for hours but you spent 15 minutes preparing your own will??

10)Would you rather watch a two hour special on building the QM2, than your beloved Toronto Maple Leafs in a playoff game??

11)Do you remember all the dates of all your cruises but forget your own birth date??

If you can answer yes to more than three of these questions...SEEK HELP!! "

I guess we can add a #12 and that would be smelling documents! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

FODs, Danno needs our help!!! http://messages.cruisecritic.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
