What are some of your favorite cruising or ship-related songs? :)

Just about any Hawaiian song. Island in the Sun. Yellow Bird.

Can't decide. But my favorite song for that dreary, endless stretch of work before the cruise starts goes like this:

"Here's one more day
on the gray funnel line."

We'll be going to the Caribbean next week, so I guess "Kokomo" comes to mind. :)

There is a song in Christian circles called "The Blessing of the Fleet" that I really like. Written by Billy Sprague.

"May your nets be filled / and your compass true / may the wind and the wave be your friend / may you stand the storm / and the hand of the Lord / bring you safely to harbor again..."

When you sail with Princess, it has to be Jack Jones' rendition of "The Love Boat." Too bad HAL doesn't have a theme song. Say, maybe we should compose one for them!

Sailing by Christopher Cross

Well, it's not far down to paradise,
at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
and find tranquility
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

It's not far to never-never land,
no reason to pretend
And if the wind is right you can find
the joy of innocence again
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

CHORUS:
Sailing takes me away
to where I've always heard it could be
Just a dream and the wind to carry me
And soon I will be free

Fantasy, it gets the best of me
When I'm sailing
All caught up in the reverie,
every word is a symphony
Won't you believe me?

CHORUS
Well it's not far back to sanity,
at least it's not for me
And if the wind is right you can sail away
and find serenity
Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see.
Believe me.

CHORUS

Today "two pina coladas, one for each hand" "let's set sail with Captain Morgan" keeps running thru my head for some reason?? Could it be because I have only 5 DAYS on my countdown clock? mebbeso

I love Jimmy Buffett's "La Vie Dansante" ...
"That's why I wander and follow la vie dansante,
On the night wind that takes me just where I want ... that's all I want, la vie dansante."

Also love "Southern Cross," Buffett-style.

"I have my ship, and all her flags are a-flying ...
She is all that I have left, and Music is her name ..."

Also love it when Buffett does the oldie "Sea Cruise" at his concerts.

I guess Gilligan's Island Theme Song would be a cute one.

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from this tropic port,
Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
The minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle,
With Gilligan,
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star,
And The Rest,
Here on Gilligans Isle.

The ending

So this is the tale of the castways,
They're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
It's an uphill climb.

The first mate and the Skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In the tropic island nest.

No phone, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primative as can be.

So join us here each week my freinds,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castways,
Here on "Gilligan's Isle.

I've always liked Bobby Darin's "Beyond the Sea", but the original french lyric (by Charles Trenet) is much more in keeping with a sea voyage (no "lover waiting on golden sands," just the ocean, ever rolling).

Then there's the sailor's song:
Brandy, you've a fine girl,
What a good wife you would be
But my life, my love and my lady is the sea.

How about "Come Sail Away" by Styx?

"I look to the sea, reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
Come sail away,
Come sail away,
Come sail away with me..."

This one is my all time favorite, I walk to this song every morning on my treadmill. It brings tears to my eyes hearing it, walking on the treadmill on the ship and pulling into a beautiful port in the early morning while listening to this song.

I forget where I was reading it, but it was in some literature about HAL, and when talking about their onboard ship entertainment, they mentioned Maureen McGovern. If you don't know, she is the woman who sang "The Morning After" which was the theme song in the Poseidon Adventure.

I thought that was a very odd choice for a cruise entertainer, but it could have made a very interesting cruise song.

Ditto! I've been singing that one for a few weeks now! Also, what happens in Mexico, stays in Mexico! We're on Oosterdam in less than 3 weeks (Mexican Riviera) :-))
