Hi all!

We just disembarked WESTERDAM on Saturday and I thought you might be interested in a Seattle Luggage Direct review. I didn't know that this service even existed until I read a WESTERDAM review here a few weeks ago. For some reason, I can't search the board for previous posts, so forgive me if this is a repeat.

Luggage Direct is a service that collects your baggage on the night before embarkation and you don't see them again until you get to your final destination airport. You will also be checked in and you will receive your boarding pass. Cost for this service is $19 per person IN ADDITION to any baggage fees imposed by your airline. Your disembarkation time is limited to 7:30 to 8:00 AM. Since I had a latter flight, I asked if I could disembark later and I was told no, that it was a Customs requirement. I'm guessing that the bags are nearby and available should Customs have to check them.

Here's how it works: On Sunday following embarkation, you will receive a sign up sheet in your cabin mail box. You must fill out this form and return it to the front office by noon on Tuesday. The form asks for some basic information such as number of bags to be checked per passenger, airline, flight number, flight departure time, airport you are departing from, enroute airport, and final destination airport. It should be noted that not all airlines participate in this program. I flew Southwest and they do participate. You will not know if your airline accepted you for this program until Friday. Once approved, you will receive your luggage direct package. Southwest will not print boarding passes earlier than 24 hours before the flight, so if you fly out on Southwest, you may have to wait a little longer for your package to arrive.

Your luggage direct package will include instructions, your boarding passes and a luggage tag for each bag you are checking through. At this point, it becomes very simple. You pack your bags, put a luggage direct tag on each bag you are checking though, and put your bag outside your room prior to 1 AM on Saturday, disembarkation morning. Your bags will be picked up and if all goes well, they will be awaiting you when you arrive at your destination airport. Your shipboard account will be charged the $19 per person fee before you disembark.

We had three in our party but one of us used a walker and could not carry/pull bags. When we arrived at SEA-TAC, it was a real hassle getting to the hotel trying to rangle all of the bags. We used luggage direct on disembarkation, and it worked like a dream. Our bags were picked up sometime after midnight on Saturday morning and we didn't see them again until we got to our destination airport. It actually worked.

Hope this helps to answer your questions.

John

The search function has been disabled while CC works on a couple of problems.

The Luggage Direct has been around for about 3 years -- every report that I have read has been good about that service.

Glad you also had a good experience with it as well.
