Hello All!

I'm sailing on the Oosterdam on 3/26. Since we booked just yesterday, we were assigned to a room that is next to the elevators. Room 1011 on the Main Deck. Do you guys know if these will by noisy rooms or not? I just want to know if I should bring some ear plugs so that I can take a nap!

Thanks for all input!

Twice we have had cabins by the elevators and I would never do it again. It's not the noise from the elevators -- that's quiet. It's the noise from passengers who forget to lower their voices at late (or early) hours, or people shouting down a hall if a friend is coming, etc. If you can change, I sure would. Even just a few cabins down would help.

We had a stateroom next to an elevator once and noticed no noise. The may have been due to the fact that the stateroom was on the uppermost passenger deck and there was little traffic.

I tend to agree w/Silverfox, however, moving a few cabins won't help much. Vista lounge proximity would be my concern. The traffic....noise from the performances.....those things..... Once the place shuts down, don't think it would be much of a noise problem.....good luck.....

Take those ear plugs to the Vista shows....they may come in handy....Many vocolists no longer sing----they just SHOUT into the mike......

Happy cruising....

After a few of the comedians and singers I have heard on board, I have decided this will be a great way to cruise and earn a little money. I can't sing or tell jokes but that doesn't seem to matter on the cruise ships:rolleyes:

Anyone ever tried a "white noise" machine?

Hello All!

Thanks for the suggestions. Since the cruise is booked full, I now doubt I will be able to move around much. I suppose I can't complain too badly since we only booked 2 days ago, and got 1 of the last 2 rooms on the ship. So, its off to the drug store to buy my ear plugs.

I haven't tried a white noise machine. I have a 3 year old who is a restless sleeper and so my "mommy radar" is always on at night listening for her.

I think I will plan to stay up late at night to let most of the noise and traffic calm down before I hit the hay.

Thanks guys!

Lori,

I just wanted to tell you that I think you have the best attitude! Instead of griping about the possible noise by your cabin, you are making the best of the situation! I think that's fantastic. :D

As far as the white noise machines go, I use one at home when my spouse is up later at night than I am. It is great for blocking out conversational and television sounds, so I would think it would work perfectly on a ship.

Thanks Iggy! I'm just happy that we got on the ship, that I had the time to go, and that I get a break from my hectic life! Hope you get one too! :)

What is a white noise machine? My hubby is an insomniac and this sounds like it would be good for me. Thanks! :)

This is the one that I have, but I have seen much cheaper models avaliable. There are digital ones that have multiple different types of sound avaliable. Those are usually called "Sleep Machines". They are very helpful!

Thanks, I am going to try this. I sleep best in the summer because we have a window fan we leave on all night. I miss it in the winter. This sounds like it may just do the trick. :)

There's the answer to your problem! As soon as you get aboard ask your steward (if your cabin is ready) or the concierge (if your in a suite) or otherwise the front desk to get a fan to your stateroom. They'll be happy to oblige and you'll get white noise without having to pack anything extra...
