View Full Version : Question about Cabin Catagories

Is there some place that lists what the different catagories mean? Like what makes an "F" different from a "G" or "H" etc.
I looked on the HAL web site and if it's there I can't find it. I searched this this forum but I can't find this specific information under any search parameter I tried.
Also, last year I had an "H" on the Statendam, I noticed someone writing about the Osterdam (sp?) said that all the Hs were obstructed views which wasn't true on the Satendam. Are the catagories different on the different ships?
Thank you in advance for any help.

The major difference is location. But looking at a Vista class ship (Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam) which has the most choices, there are 5 basic categories -
Penthouse Suite (PS)
Deluxe Verandah Suite (S)
Superior Verandah Suite (SS)
Deluxe Verandah Outside (A, AA, B, BA, BB, BC)
Large Outside Stateroom(C, D, DD, E, F, G, H)
Large or Standard Inside Stateroom (I, J, K, L, M, MM, N, NN)

Best place to look for differences are the deckplans on the HAL site -
...and Dave, don't forget the new categories: VA, VB, VC, VD...

So..for clarification..on the above, the closer you get to "A" in the alphabet, the better grade the cabin? For example, a C is a better cabin (placement, view whatever) than an H?

And within the same category of cabin the closer to A in the alphabet means a more desirable location. For example, in deluxe veranda outside an A will likely be midships on a higher deck while a BC will be forward or aft on a lower deck.

Oh! what are VC, VB, VC etc? I thought they just meant Verandah category A etc.

They are the new designations for veranda cabins. All the A and B listings were a little too confusing.

For A thru NN, yes. PS, S, SS are the "top o' the heap"

If you belong to AAA or can go to a travel agency, the HAL tour book has the ships, decks, descriptions, rates for the cruises, etc. This was a tremendous help in my decision of cabin, location and price.
HAL would probably send you one in the mail if you have an idea of where you want to cruise or which ship you are interested in getting more information.

I am a little ticked at them for starting to charge for the information, but if you don't mind paying $1 for a one day membership, you can go to
http://cruisestateroom.com
and get very complete information and diagrams of all the different cabins.

Hey, not only do we have a VD cabin for our upcoming cruise, it's VD guaranteed!! I guess that explains the $500pp/night surcharge;)
