View Full Version : Question for someone who has been to Stockholm on Eurodam

I’m hoping someone who has been to Stockholm on Eurodam could please answer these questions for me.

We have been to Stockholm many times on smaller HAL ships, but never on any as large as Eurodam.
The smaller ships (Statendam class and Prinsendam) can cruise up through the Stockholm archipelago right into Stockholm, but I was under the impression that Eurodam was too big get through some of the narrow channels in the Stockholm archipelago and therefore always has to remain at Nynashamn on the Baltic Sea.
I also thought Nynshamn is always a tender port.

The Eurodam itinerary for July 31/2012 indicates the embarkation port is ‘Stockholm’.
-> does this mean Eurodam actually does get up through the archipelago and dock right in the city?
Has anyone reading this actually been on Eurodam when it has docked right in the city of Stockholm?

- if Stockholm embarkation really takes place at Nynshamn, am I wrong in thinking it has to be a tender port? (can’t imagine embarkation of a ship the size of Eurodam happening in a tender port!)

Thanks in advance to anyone who has the first hand experience on Eurodam and can clear up this confusion.

We've been to Stockholm on the E'dam. We docked in town, right next to the Baltic Ferries. Great location, but there are other docks in town that are also used. We loved sailing the archipelago. We're looking at doing another Baltic and won't be doing one that goes to Nynshamn instead of Stockholm. Spending an hour in transit to Stockholm isn't for us.

On the Westerdam, which is the same length and width as the Eurodam, we docked at Masthamnen, about 2 km from Gamlastan.

I really appreciate the prompt replies to my questions and the good news that the large HAL ships can make it into Stockholm - and strongly agree that a cruise that goes to Nynashamn and doesn't include the beautiful scenery of the Stockholm archipelago is not a good choice.

We did meet some people on another cruiseline that did go to that far away port and they were jealous that we were so close in. We loved the trip into the archipelago. You are right they would never tender for an embarkation port.

In June my cruise on the Eurodam docked at Nynshamn. Yes, it is a tender port and we booked the only HAL shore excursion of our cruise so that we wouldn't have trouble being 45 minutes from Stockholm. Apparently the Eurodam uses both Stockholm and Nynshamn depending on the specific cruise.
