I haven't been to Costa Maya before. Is there anything particular this port is known for?? Or what suggestions might you have to do there?

Thanks,
Annbanan

My husband and I were in Costa Maya a few years ago. At that time they had just opened up a few shops at the port and the surrounding area was desolate and very poor. Most people either stayed on the ship or went on excursions. We went on a long tour of some Mayan ruins. It was a hot day, but very enjoyable. I was really glad we went.

I understand that there is more development in Costa Maya now, but I'm not sure what is available. Regardless, have a great time!

Theres not a WHOLE lot to do. You can take a Van to the fishing village, they have lots of beach front bars and things like that. Be prepared, it looks a little dicey but is fine!! If you are interested, they have a Beach Party excursion you can book online, check the Costa Maya board. We did that and had a BLAST!! Definetly the highlight of our trip

We were there in January (but on brand X) and took the Pontoon Jungle River Boat. We thoroughly enjoyed it and found the guides very informative. Don't know if it's offered through HAL or not.

Puerto Limon is a VERY poor area. The homes are encircled by concertina wire. The guide told us that was their "security" system.

He asked us not to judge his whole country by the very small part we saw on the bus ride.

Thanks,
