We were on the Zaandam last year on a 15 day circle of Hawaii. We had a great cruise and had no issues with the ship even though there was a mechanical problem and we left San Diego several hours late. The crew was fantastic and the ship was in good shape. We are booked on this ship again for a 39 day cruise to Australia in October. I wouldn't have booked this cruise if I was concerned. I think people are just too picky. I realize that some have legitimate gripes if they have had problems that really impacted their trip but for us the experience of the cruise is what you make of it yourself. I am going for a good time and don't let things like stained carpet ruin it for me. My opinion -:) hope it helps with your concerns.

We were on Zaandam Feb 2011, so not exactly very current info. A ship can take a lot of physical abuse in 6 or 7 months, y'know?

What I do know is that every crew member we interacted with (with only one notable exception) was great. Food was good. The Promenade Deck was inviting. :) We tend to not notice wear and tear, unless we trip over ripped carpet or similar. We would have ZERO hesitation to sail on the Zaandam again.

I was on the Zaandam on 8/21. I must confess that I'm a hotel snob on land. I like newer hotels that are well maintained. For the most part, I thought this ship was fine. We stayed in a Verandah Suite. The only complaint I have was with the shower curtain. First, it had a hole in it. Second, it did not fully cover the shower...lengthwise. Aside from this, the room was well maintained and clean. In the ship itself, I did not see any glaring deficiencies that caught my eye.
