I heard there is a smoothie bar on the Rotterdam. Is this correct, if so, are the smoothies free? Plus, I have never been on the Rotterdam, does anyone have anything (good/bad) to say about the ship? Thanks for the help, it's appreciated!

There's a pretty good Rotterdam trip report with lots of pictures at www.fortogden.com/rotterdam.html (http://www.fortogden.com/rotterdam.html) .

Can't say I know what a smoothie bar is, but I never heard of one on the Rotterdam.

I've sailed extensively on that ship---most recently last summer on a 34-day cruise.
She's an elegant lady of the seas---truly lives up to flagship status. There is lovely artwork throughout the ship. Her staff and crew uphold HAL's tradition of excellence with supurb service. The food must be fine as I never went hungry. It's easy to find your way around the ship and she's not so big that you can't get to someplace else.

You will very much enjoy a cruise on this fine ship.

We sail on her April 29 out of Venice on our 2nd cruise with her. A truly lovely and well cared for ship. We have been on almost every line and the service on this one is excellant. It is clean and well decorated. Don't know about the smoothies, but they did have fresh pop corn in the movie theaters, pizza, ice cream and cappacino service for free when we sailed on her last.

It sounds like you will be cruising after the Rotterdam has been in drydock. We will be aboard in December of 2005, and have several questions.
Do they have healthful menu selections for breakfast and lunch?'
Is there a piano bar?
Are there lots of opportunities for ballroom dancing?
Do they still offer complimentary special coffee drinks?

Thanks

No Smoothie Bar as of yet. I just debarked from the Rotterdam in Feb., but we go into dry dock on March 23rd. For SOE info you can go to the Holland America website and find a schedule of the changes and timing.

I can answer some of your questions.

No, there is no Piano Bar. Instead there is a Piano Lounge with dance floor.
Which leads us to your next question! :) Yes, there is plenty of ballroom dancing. Depending on who's playing where, your best chances (in order) are Ocean Bar, Piano Lounge, and Explorers Lounge.
The Ocean Bar usually has a 3-piece combo; Explorers Lounge is stringed instruments. In my experience requests are welcomed.

As far as healthy menu selections goes, I would say there is ample opportunity in the Lido to pick and choose what is best for you. There is even an omelette station where you can have them make egg whites. An extensive salad bar is put out at lunchtime.

RuthC summed it up beautifully in her earlier post. The Rotterdam remains our favorite ship to date. She's a fine vessel.
