So we belong to two wine clubs at wineries near our home in c.a.
I realized ordering from them and having it shipped to our hotel in ft lauderdale is much easier and cheaper than having a cab run outside of total wine. If I could just pre order from total wine that would be quicker but I just cant lol.

Check out www.wineresort.com
Southcoast winery has won best winery many years in a row and gold medals from the ca state fair. A huge winner is the ruby cuvee. Sparkling syrah.

www.wilsoncreekwinery.com has the most wonderful almond sparkling wine (champagne method) and fantastic chocolate port called decadencia. Also has gold medal wines.

Alot of people mix the two!

Just wanted share an easy option for some great california wines. Our local wineries have many vines over a decade old.

You can pre-order from Total Wine and they will have it waiting for you to pick up.

We never drag wine aboard but prefer to order from the wine menu, however, I have read here repeatedly others have pre-ordered and picked up at Total Wine with no difficulty. Fast in, fast out and back in the taxi.

Do not leave the taxi unattended by one in your party with all your luggage and carryons inside. Just to be safe.......

 Why would a wine club sell to people who are not members of their club and then ship to a hotel?

Or do they have to become members?
Hope you know the folks in the hotel as a case of wine could easily be 'lost'.

We have pre-ordered from Total Wine. One time no problem a quick in and out. DH went to Publix and I ran into TW. The second time they couldn't find my order and had to box it at the time. Either way was probably faster than me window shopping through TW.
If you know and like the wine having it delivered to your hotel sounds like a great idea. I think TW delivers for big orders but I'm not sure.

Anyone can order from the wineries you dont have to be a member
I spoke to the mgr and concierge at our hotel and they acted like guests get ups and fed ex deliveries all of the time~
When I pre ordered from total wine it wasnt ready so we went back the next day and shopped but it cost us like $30 to run the taxi.
We will try this and let u know how it worked. :)

Ps. When I ended up shopping total wine I ended up looking for something close to what our local wineries have~

Yes but the menu is very very limited-
little to no ports, and no assorted sparkling wines, which we really like.
Living in the wine country (Temecula and Napa) we have gotten spoiled. :)

I have a strapping young man who will carry a case of wine to make me smile. :)
But many friends use those little folding carts from Wal Mart that fit into the rolling duffles.

We find plenty from which to choose.

All our years of wine drinking has taught us how to always find a wine we can enjoy. ;)
I do agree their choice or Ports is inconsistent. Sometimes we've found a good one or two and other cruises very poor choices. (;) Sometimes we've even had some that wasn't on the menu. )

Be happy....... bring your wine.
Enjoy.

We are not big wine drinkers -- so we just choose something to order from the menu -- easier than lugging bottles of wine onto a ship.

Maybe you should have used two taxis. :D

We orded wine from Opus One Winery in California at Christmas and had it sent to the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort in FFL.

It worked great... Total Wine, while a wonderful wine store, does have a relatively limited selection - as least as it was viewed on-line.

Or you could just stay at a hotel closer to Total Wine & carry it back to the hotel :D No cabs - I prefer to shop rather to view on line choices as well:)

much more choice and more fun :):)

We love opus one! Great choice. We found that total wine does not have everything online. tons more in store. But we think onkine ordering from our wineries and shipping is going to be easier when we are pressed for time after 6 hour flight. Saves cab fare as well. I will save about 20 total and every penny helps!

The not leaving the cad unattended with your luggage in it is probably the best advice I have ever seen you post (and you do post very valuable info regularly). The cab drivers in Ft Lauderdale are notorious crooks. Always offering to not run the meter, then over charging you. You have to keep an eye on them. They seem to be loosely regulated.

:D Sure looks like a HAL wine steward holding the bottle. ;) It's a nice wine. We have enjoyed a bottle or two.

Happy you think it helpful advice.
It seems obvious but so easy to not think of when piling out of the taxi. I can't imagine the sick feeling to see cab drive off with all your things inside. Probably only one in a million but what if it's you?

Oh, I think the odds are much better than 1 in a million. Probably the same odds as me over eating on a cruise.

Ft Lauderdale Cab VS Limo-This year it is our 7th anniversary of being together. I found a limo company that does hotel to cruise ship shuttle with champagne toast- Think it was like $100, im going to surprise my honey with a limo pickup to take us to the ship,

I think it was It was $20 additional if we opted for a 25 minute stop over at total wine in our quote.

Inclusive with tip & champagne toast either $100 or $120 (if w/wine stop) I think.

On embarkation day, we have a 4 PM flight so we need to kill some time, we are going to do a everglades tour, and the same limo company offered 3.5 hours for $230, champagne and tip included.

If anyone wants the info let me know and I will post it.

I quoted 8 diff. companies and two had the very best rates.

Is it possible/feasible to board your ship and then walk back to Total Wine/Publix for all your last minute purchases?

Yes. You can leave the ship, get your wine and return.

Be certain to bring your passport/photo ID and ship's ID card in order to clear the Sheriff's security post when you return to Port Everglades. All vehicles are stopped and ID's must be shown.

No.... YOU do; we don't. :D

The only time we brought any liquor aboard was when we were given a nice bottle of wine in our hotel pre-cruise, we didn't drink it and didn't want to waste it. In the end, we never had it and left it in the cabin.

Grab a taxi. It's a fast ride and won't cost you much.
Depending upon what time you embark and then leave the ship, you won't have that much time. Life Boat Drill is 4:15 P.M. (usually).
