I have loved them since they came out way back there in the 80's when I was in high school. Too bad they self destructed but a chance to see Slash who is to me one of the top 5 rock guitarists ever is incredible. I will take some video and send it to you if you want :p

As I figured:
July 1 - 25 - total rain 1/4"
Forecast for July 26 - thunderstorms all day, lots of rain, lightning, high winds, hail, etc.
Oh well, concert is a rain or shine event so we will be going. At least we bought the VIP tickets and there are 2 large beer and food tents we can take shelter in while the other 10,000 people stand out getting soaked.
Good luck at the casino today - maybe today your luck changes :D

We haven't seen much of them although they are all over the TV. It's strange, I love the winter olympics and I am like you - wearing out the remote. Summer games don't hold much for me but maybe that is because Canada is not exactly a summer games powerhouse. I wish they had kept baseball and fastball in the games - I really did enjoy watching those.
Our basement reno has begun  - got the bad part of the concrete floor repaired. Broke it out with a sledge hammer on Sunday and repoured new concrete last night. I won't be taking any concrete jobs in the near future, it is not my forte to say the least :D

Yes indeedy! We are in NO danger at all, but I drive to and from work on hwy 24, and that's where part of the (daily!) flooding and mudslides is occuring. The hwy has already been shut down 2x for cleanup - and they are ALWAYS now working on it to try to come up with some sort of diversion/solution. I feel really bad for those folks affected....if you didn't have flood insurance, you're SOL.

Steve and I were watching the Olympics last evening about 9pm, with the front door open - screen door secured. I have really good hearing, and I thought I heard some noise in the garage. So I go to the screen door to listen, and hear another bang! I tell Steve "there's something kinda big" out there making a racket (our attached garage is about 8-10 feet from our front door). So he comes to the door - opens it - shines a flashlight toward the side garage door - yells "get outa there", thinking it's a big raccoon....... and out walks a FRIGGIN BEAR!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????????:p We've lived here 30 1/2 years, and have never, ever seen a bear up here.(see them in Co Spgs, but not at our house). Anyways, he moseys off, and then we hear the folks 1/4 mile away from us yelling "go on - get outa here!!!". Guess he was out looking for dinner. He knocked over our ice maker and coleman ice chest, TRYING to climb up and open our 2nd refridgerator out there. FOILED!!!! I will be looking extra carefully now when I head out for a smoke!!!!

With the way the Big 3 automakers are destroying the CAW union, that may be one of the last few parts ever made in Canada. Of course, the CAW did do it to themselves over the years.

With the way the Big 3 automakers are destroying the CAW union, that may be one of the last few parts ever made in Canada. Of course, the CAW did do it to themselves over the years.
One step forward, 2 steps back in the basement. Big rains yesterday and for the first time in 21 years here, we have water down there  Can't go any further until we figure out what happened.
Lisa may have hit the nail on the head!!! either that or you've had so little rain that instead of the ground absorbing the rain it just ran to the dry cracks and ended up in the basement... Hope it's not a big fix:eek:
Lisa, they had some big big deals going on with the 2012 Santa Fe's!! ( just a thought)

LOL, I agree - basically it is "Are you currently happy? Enjoy it because everything goes to *&^% soon"
Enjoy the shrimp run and casino. Our weekend is working on the basement and selling all the junk at the garage sale. Everything is priced and ready to be put outside, hopefully by noon tomorrow it is all gone and none of it comes back inside.

Wow!! go away for a weekend and everything happens!!!!
Lets see-- Steve-- glad the basement passed the test!!! Hope ya got rid of everything in the garage sale-- one way or another;) Had a 50/50 weekend-- Rained all the way up-- rained both days there-- mostly-- rained all the way back--- Shrimp came in at $2.25 a lb -- Good price-- no jumbo's tho as they are getting near the end of season... Very convienent also that the boats come in right behind the casino-- So everything we saved on the shrimp-- and more-- got donated to the casino....
Lisa-- hope the root canal comes out ok.. I'm like you-- just as happy pulling them out of the freezer at the store--but they are a good size--
Luckily I missed the big Paul Ryan shebang-- usually it's overloaded with outsiders and -- "VIP's and way way way too hot to sit there from 5:30 AM until the speeches start at 10.. We are a big place tho-- about 88000 or more and counting!!! I was happy to just read about it in the paper..

I have the iPhone 4 and like it, does way more that I can figure out but I use the camera and iPod a lot. Was nice having skype on it when Jess was in Brazil too. The storms have pretty much petered out.. Alot of rain and some wind gusts but Isaac has moved fairly farther west of us..Now it's New Orleans and the area that has to be concerned.. Supposed to have rain on and off today and that's it!! Went in Saturday to check on a new phone/plan.. took your advice-- all they had left at the time were blackberry's.. I asked the girl why and she said-- "well, they are kinda havin a problem right now".. Told her I'd be back Monday evening or Tuesday, when she got more phones in..

Lisa, CC won't let me post facebook pics here. Your man cave bathroom sounds 5 star compared to our "man can" which is just a toilet in the middle of the room. No walls, no doors, no sink, no nothing. Just sitting there beside the water heater.

It is a fully functional man can :D. It was here when I moved in 21 years ago and it is still working. It would take a lot of work to rough in the plumbing for a sink and shower there so we have always just left it there as the man can.
Started insulating tonight, that is a yucky itchy job but necessary to warm it up down there in the winter.

I am not sure if you have basements in the Villages but if it is suggested that you finish said basement as a playroom, good luck. This project was a "man cave" and after Cindy saw it coming together, it became a "tv room".
With drapes
And none of my cool hockey stuff on the walls
Almost done boarding it - that job sucks.

2nd coat is on and thankfully my dream did not come true. It isn't looking too bad but there are some spots that will be hidden by furniture, table, hockey pictures.
One more coat on most of the room to go plus a lot of touch ups in some areas.
Then on to sanding
Quit early today, have to get cleaned up and ready for some Peyton Manning Broncos football tonight :D
Nice start for your Bears Pat!!!

You can keep your drywall tape jobs!!!! Did way way too much of that stuff-- and that was before they came up with those nice little tape guns you can now rent!!! Load the gun with tape and mud-- one swipe and "whammo" all done.. Then just a little sanding and "paint the heck out of it"!!!!! It does feel good tho when it's done and you know you did it!!;)

Yup, another work stoppage. Tough to feel sorry for either side but in this one, I blame the owners. They cry poor but can't control themselves on outrageous contracts over long periods that will cripple them well into 2020.

Doing a Tee Bar suspended ceiling - still have some old knob and tube wiring in the house I have to get rid of so I will need access to it "eventually".
And no, no more drywall for a while, my carpel tunnel can't take the mudding.
Taking this weekend off and heading to the trailer. Calling for 3 days of rain so some at least I can give the wrists a bit of a break then get back at it on Sunday.

Didn't check in yesterday-- took the baby to meet her great grandma-- so i spent most of the day stuck in a room with a newborn and 6 women... took me till 11 last nite to get my brain untwisted!!!
Today it's back outside for more powerwashing , scraping and painting... and this time all my "help' has disappeared.... So how is this considered a fun trip???

How long are you staying up here in the north??
I see the refs have settled in the NFL. I would think the debacle in Seattle the other nights kinda gave the refs some leverage.
Now if only the NHL would settle

Well, Steve got his wish.... he contacted a contractor a month ago to have the back, L shaped deck (done a few years back in TREX) finally connected to our front covered porch.... so now we have a very large "wrap-around.". I can see me out there this weekend, rearranging the flower pots, furniture, and the like.... and finally being able to easily clean my huge kitchen window from the outside!
Just skyped with Bill and Barrett. Barretts' mom is taking him on a cruise this weekend!!!! Don't know all the details, just that they're leaving from FLA, and I assume heading toward the Carribbean. Lucky spoiled little guy, my nephew is!

Good trip tho.. but now, I need to get me some "layback time".. that is as soon as I get the clothes washed, car washed, clothes ironed, lawn mowed, new bathroom light put up.. I need a vacation!!!! At least I'm not running up and down a ladder like I was all last week at the kids house!!! And, it was nice taking a shower in a "REAL SHOWER" and not a little man-cave in the basement one;) But first, I gotta see if there is any money left in the checking accounts!! I bet she was asleep. Even though they are less than 10 pounds, little babies can exhaust you.
Messy doesn't even describe it, ugh. Got it all off, the lathe peeled off and down to tongue and groove boards covering the studs. Took one off to find all the cellulose insulation has settled down to about 2 feet. 3 floors here (ok, 2 full floors and a lofted office area)- approx 2000 sq' - and close to 40 years old. As we get older, I want the one floor plan that I always used to make fun of my parents when they'd bring it up.:o And the Florida part too, where it's warm and no snowy winters. I told Cin last night the next house we buy will be project free, the old body is not liking this reno at all.
The stairs to Cindy's lady lair remain. And so does all her foofy girly stuff down there
Move now Steve - move now!!!
I am torn Lisa, the house is so affordable and will be paid off soon. Getting into a big mortgage as I get closer to retirement scares me. Would rather live here watching football in the lady lair than give more money to the bank.
Speaking of football - wonder how great the Broncos could be if they play an entire 4 quarters :D

I hear ya! We paid our home off back in 1997 (bought it in 1982). Best thing we ever did! We live within our means...we have no debt... and we have a home to live in (and not pay for) in our golden years.

We seem to be on the right track then when it comes to not having a mortgage :D
Last night's project didn't go so well :(. Tried to blow cellulose insulation into the back wall of the house - ended up with more cellulose in the house than in the wall cavities then the machine kept plugging up. Finally gave up and will come up with plan B today

The hose kept plugging up with the insulation so we had to keep taking it apart and unplugging it. Got enough in the walls that I was able to do the rest with bats of insulation. Walls are now insulated, just have to finish the vapour barrier and start drywalling.
Hey, on the bright side, at least it is a urologist and not a proctologist you are seeing quarterly :D

I may have been a little quick to spout my wiring success
Not sure what I have done but now when I turn the light switch on, 5 of the lights on the circuit come on and 2 don't. When I switch it off, the 2 come on and the other 5 go off . Something is amiss. Will get the guys in tomorrow to figure out what I have done. I hate admitting defeat but I do it quickly when it comes to hydro.
First coat of mud is on the walls in the new hallway. Hopefully by next weekend it is painted and done. After that, a couple of weekends off to get some cooking and relaxing done.

Have a great and safe trip Lisa, hopefully the storm misses you and your folks.
This is not my weekend.
Last night, I finished painting and stepped on the wrong part of my plywood platform I have been using. Up went the other end of the platform, down went my end with me on it and down it went into the stairwell below. With me still somewhat attached along with a 3/4 full can of paint. Amazing how much paint 1/2 gallon is when it is all over you. No major injuries thankfully but the mess took about an hour to clean up.
Today, got the painting and stairwell finished and decided to clean up the construction dust and mess from the kitchen. Spent 3 hours cleaning and polishing the kitchen and finished with the great self clean of the oven. Set it and went about my merry way. 1/2 hour later, noticed a lot of smoke, looked thru the oven window and low and behold - FLAMES. Spent the next out with the St. Thomas Fire Department who got it put out. Best guess is a mouse nest got built in the burner compartment and went up.
Guess we are going shopping for a new stove tomorrow
On the upside, as promised, I have not used power tools this weekend :D

Hi guys!!! WOW - Steve, you are a dangerous man when working in and around your house! (Had to cover that first, after reading about all the mishaps!)
We had a GREAT visit with my folks..... let's see...... first of all, I changed our tickets to fly into Philly on Sunday, the day BEFORE Sandy hit full force. We were originally flying in the day AFTER....so I made the change 2 days in advance - packed fast - and got outa here. We arrived in Philly with pouring rain, and minimal turbulence at 7pm that night....and lo and behold, the turbo prop we were taking into Stewart Airport (Newburgh, NY) took off right at 9:30pm as planned - and then they shut the Philly airport down!!! Yahoooooo.... we snuck in before Sandy. Arrived at 10:30pm in NY to light winds and no rain. Next day was a different story..........
Woke up to worsening cloudy conditions - big hurricane force winds - and light to moderate rain bands moving thru. We no sooner finished dinner Monday evening (7pm) - power OUT! Had fun lighting all the hurricane lamps - candles - parents have a small wood stove, so we were toasty warm the entire time. Had no power the entire next day (Tuesday), but went out and about to survey surrounding damage (minimal to moderate - mostly huge spruces/pines/firs down, and power lines down), and even drove 20 minutes up the road to have a great Chinese Buffet (lots of surrounding towns NEVER lost power - go figure!). Next morning when we awoke, power was back up in our neck of the woods.
And picture this.... we got in late last night, RIGHT AHEAD OF THE NOR'EASTER! Mom says it's snowing sideways right now - 3-5" expected at their place. Our timing this trip was impeccable...and I got an extra 2 days with my folks....gotta love it!:D
My folks are 1 hour north of NYC area, just up the NYS Thruway, so yes, they are inland. No flooding in the area. We were very lucky.;)
Looks like back to work for me tomorrow.....gotta get the Fall cleanups rolling along again, before it snows on me. It's in the 70's out here this week - beautiful!
Glad to be home!!!!!!

We also got to see the Broncos game this past Sunday. We never expected it to be televised in NY, so Steve was a VERY happy fan!:D:D:D

Glad you are back safely in the land of legal Marijuana Lisa :D NY / NJ is certainly getting the poop beat out of it this month with weather. Hope the folks don't lose power again with the snow storm.
And yes, the last couple weeks of renos have been trying and adventurous to say the least.
Pat, my motto has always been "Save a golf cart, ride a Palm Tree"
Cindy says I have to have a new motto this year :o
