I just noticed that for an additional 40 dollars I can move from an oceanview to a lanai cabin. I made final payment last week and we are 86 days out. Is it possible and if so how do I switch the reservation?

Call your TA or cruise counselor and give it a shot. I've rarely known a cruise line to turn down cash.

I would say as long as you are giving the cruiseline more money (and not rebooking to get money back) how could they say no??

the sy's went on sale on our cruise. I posted on our roll call and of our fellow cc'ers had no trouble upgrading and getting it :) (yes, way past final payment date)

Thanks to all..... I called and for $80.00 total I moved from a F outside to a Lanai cabin midship. They really dropped that price because it was nowhere near that price when I booked the cruise. Now I get to try out that type of cabin for the first time.

Interesting. I had a hard time upgrading on my cruise that leaves tomorrow from a OV to a balcony. The difference was $640. In the end they did take my money but it wasn't easy:rolleyes:.

They wanted $300.00 a piece for a total of $600.00 for me to upgrade to an OV to a VH Guarantee. I declined since I paid $100.00 more for the OV. They only made the offer after I complained. It sure isn't worth the aggrivation.

That is a good deal for $80.00. Enjoy the Lanai! Lower Promenade Deck is nice!

Yesterday a HAL agent told me something about a 75 day policy. Regardless of when final payment is made, as long we it is more than 75 days from departure you can wheel and deal:) She said to make a note on my calender 76 days before departure and be sure to try one last ditch effort then. Hope this helps:)

On our last cruise (30 day hawaii tahiti) cruise we upgraded our cabin the last afternoon before we left (and I mean last minute - about 4:30 pm the second of March and we sailed the third - last minute) I had the ta call hal on the first of March for a upgrade. HAL wanted $6,000.00 to upgrade from cat g to balcony. On the second of March the price dropped to $1099.00 pp. We took it and never looked back. Having that balcony was almost the best thing about the cruise! (Of course there were so many "best" things about that cruise to pin point one is just too hard!!!!!

On our Amsterdam 14 day Alaska cruise last month, we were originally booked into an OV cabin. Way before final payment, they were asking $5,000 more to move up to a Verandah cabin and we couldn't justify the cost.

Two days before the cruise, HAL called and offered an upsell to the Verandah for $1200 total and we took it, no questions, no hesitation. It was money well spent, as we saw tons of different wildlife from our balcony, not to mention the Hubbard Glacier viewing.

We will always consider an upsell and kind of get an idea of the maximum price we would pay ahead of time.

I'm glad to know now about the 75 days in advance option mentioned by HALrunner in this post..

You would THINK the cruise line wouldn't question making a little more money on an existing booking. A few years ago, we were booked (directly, not through an agent) on a HAL 10 day Caribbean cruise, and I happened to notice a promo page - one day only - on their web site offering $100 upgrades to the next general type of room (inside to outside, outside to verandah).

So I called and the res agent said, "that's only for new bookings." I had to persuade her to talk to her supervisor, explaining that it would be MORE money for the company and a happier Mariner. She did, though not willingly. Yes, we got the verandah, and were delighted with our cruise.

But I really scratched my head on that one. Who in the business world ever turns down more money from a client who has already bought something? (By the way, I worked in the cruise industry as a sales rep back in the dark ages of the 1980s...we liked to sell up even for a few bucks.)

I only upgrade after final payment. That's when the rates drop and I can afford a better cabin. Went from an inside to an SA (was an SC guar, they upgraded me) on my upcoming 1 night cruise for only 80.00 more pp. They tried to tell me it was on a 3 day sale, but then put me on hold, and came back and said it would be ok. I think it really depends on the mood of the rep at the time you call.

Hi fellow cruisers,

Last week, I upsell from H cat to VH after my final payment I made 6 or 7 weeks ago.
The fact is that my cruise announce the price less than I paid in july.
So I call HA, they have to rebook my cruise but for 105,00$ I move from inside to outside !! Yeah !

I went from the cheapest inside gty to VA category balcony after final payment last May. The price had dropped dramatically and I had my TA call just to see if I could get a small upgrade. I couldn't believe that I went to a VA - without paying a dime. My son and I were happy, happy cruisers!:D
