The west side highway will be closed northbound at 57th st. for the nyc triathalon this Sunday. That is a couple of blocks north of the terminal so make adjustments in travel time for traffic.

Very nice of you to give a heads up.. Could you tell me how that would effect someone getting a cab from Port Authority to pier? Would they take much longer.. or is it just a bit longer? Thanks. !

What time are you getting to PA? Most of the events are in the morning, but I would allow extra time and cost to cab ride. We were in that area last Sunday and traffic by the PA was horrendous. The area of closure is supposed to be north of the passenger terminals.

Claire - I saw where you posted that 2 grand-daughters are going ... I presume Heather is one? We'll watch for you in the terminal when we're getting on Oct 9th. Keep the ship in good shape for us. :)

Will Hurricane Ophelia affect you?It should have little impact unless it does serious damage in Bermuda, which isn't likely.

Probably will not effect ride time by more than a few minutes from either Penn Station or Port Authority. (The ride normally is only about 10-12 minutes, anyway.)

The Annual Bike MS Tour takes place on Sunday is going to mess things up for most of the day. Riverside Drive between 165th Street & 72nd Street, West 72nd between Riverside & West End, West End between 72nd & West 59th, and the West Side Highway (South Bound) between West 56th & West Street will reportedly be closed from 7:30 am - 6:00 pm. I’m not sure if that’s the whole day or only intermittently. Either way, sounds like avoiding the far West Side would be a good idea if possible.
This is from one of the traffic advisory sites. Looks like a frustrating way to start vacation:(

Thank you. I have to go to west 79th st. so if I'm correct I can get off the drive at 96th street and hope for the best.

According to the NYC Port Authority, the entire West Side Drive is closed until 11:30 and then after that, they're not sure what will happen.

We really had no problem with traffic. I think a lot of people stayed away from the west side. We left our house at 10:30stopped for coffee and was onboard
The ship by noon. Luggage arrived soon after.
