There sure is, just be sure to not sit so close to the Piano or you might get coerced into singing a song.;)

as a follow-up, any idea if they ever let the passengers sit-in for a few minutes?

i used to be a professional keyboardist, and am pretty confident one or more members of my group will try to get me to play a song or two. i don't mind doing it - but i do try to gauge the regular guy's attitude about it (as in if he's getting pissed at somebody trying to upstage him i try to get them to back-off asap).

just curious... oh, and i too love to just sit and vege in a piano bar.

On two cruises we have been on there were pianos in other than the piano bar. Pax played them at will and usuually with an audience. One was in the library and the other in an area near the coffee bar but I can't recall which ships. Perhaps this is also true of HAL (or perhaps one of them was a HAL ship.)

Hi there. I was a constant in Piano bars on HAL for a few years and with a new agent I have spead my wings a bit, just finishing Panama Canal cruises on the REGAL Princess. Myself, I don't worry about anyone coming on and entertaining their friends for a few tunes, because I figure, I've GOT the job, right? Of course there are a lot of prima donnas out there and it is advisable to check with them first, especially if you are ANY good! Many ships however, have a policy of restricting performance to the fellow who was hired for it. It may be a technical thing or an ego thing, but you can usually tell by the guy's attitude. Enjoy your cruise and like Sueseb says, you could find an unmanned piano somewhere else, and remember it is better to apologize than to ask permission.
