new to HAL and wondered about the formal nights. We are sailing caribbean nov 12 for 7 days. Any idea what nights they are, how many in 7 days, what restaurant they are in and menu? Thanks

For 7 day cruises, there will be two, always held in the main dining room. Usually second and sixth nights, but can vary some.

We have a 12 day cruise, so I assume there will be 3 formal nights.

What do you do my fellow fashion sisters, do you take 1, 2 or even 3 different outfits for your formal nights?
I'm thinking of taking my fav. gown, along with one long skirt, and two matching corset tops, I do have to save a bit a space for other stuff!

7 day cruise -- 2 formal nights

10 day cruise - 3 formal nights

14 day cruise - 4 formal nights

The dress code is observed in the main dining room, Pinnacle and if your ship has one -- Tamarind.

I take a floor length and 3/4 length skirt and several fancy tops.

You will be fine with that. I don't worry about repeating formal attire on a cruise. Ours has 5 and I can assure you I am not packing 5 formal outfits. Oh, the beauty of the long black skirt:D

Amen to that! Over the years I have amassed a nice collection of beaded tops, many bought at the post-holiday sales. I find that these tops and the black skirt are easier to pack than gowns.

The corset tops mentioned by another poster sound like another good option to pair with a long skirt. Not on me  but fine for someone who looks good in them. But carry a shawl or sweater if your shoulders are bare. The AC in the public rooms can be a bit "enthusiastic."

I use the same "rule" for formal wear as I do for all my evening wear: I plan on wearing each outfit a maximum of three times.
If the cruise is very short (10 days or less), or very long (over 35 days), then that "rule" is tweeked one way or the other.

Didn't realize that there would be 3 formal nights on my upcoming 11 day southern Caribbean cruise which starts on a Monday and ends on a Friday. Since we only have 3 days at sea with two days at end of cruise following each other, when will be the formal nights be held? I presumed our first day at sea and the second last night. I think 3 is a bit much.

I have a satin bolero, wich I'm fond off. A pashmina or other shawl is beautiful,.... on someone else, those things always lead their own life on my body, and I end up messing with it all night.
Being 6ft and wearing size 8, I'll be fine in corsettops, but even warmer situations, I always cover my (upper arms), I'm not 25 anymore

I do have an awesome gown, and have so little situations I can wear it, so it's coming, otherwise I would stick to the black skirt versus glam top too!

Great rule!
This one will save me a lot of space!
Thank you!

Me too, but I still use them. I always wonder how some women just drape shawls on and they stay put. Maybe they're using that double-sided tape that models use?????

As for the awesome gown, you'll just have to sign up for some more cruises to take it on!

If I decide not to take a tux, then I take one dark suit with two different shirt/tie combinations. If I take a tux, I just bring two shirts. Every other night it's dressy slacks, collared shirt, and a sports coat.
