Hello,
Anyone have any recommendations for hotels in Oslo? Our cruise finishes up in Stockholm and we plan to stay there one night and then spend 3 nights in Oslo. I thought I had narrowed it down to the Hotel Continental, but there might be an issue with room availability. I was also looking at the Grand Hotel, but there might be an issue with bed size (I think they only had double and DH is 6'2" and 240, so I don't think he would be too happy:rolleyes: !).
Thanks in advance for any help (I will also post this on the Baltic board).

We stayed four nights at the Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel in Oslo right opposite a modernistic mall in 1999. It was very nice and not as expensive as the Grand Hotel (1100 Norwegian krona per night at that time). It was quite new, with air conditioned rooms and full facilities. It is also just a short taxi ride away from the centre of the city: those of you who are "fit" can easily walk there! Hope this helps.

Thank you Meow! for you posting.
What were the rooms like from a bed-sized view? Were they King or Queens or Doubles? I'm finding a lot of hotels that offer Double beds, but not too many that have larger.
Thanks.

I looked up my 1999 diary, and had data only on the room we stayed in. It had two beds put together into one, measuring 2x41" wide and 79" long. The room itself was 11'1" wide, with 16'11" long room proper, plus 8'10" long for the bathroom/closet area, in an overall rectangular shape of 285 sq.ft. total. That is all the measurements I have for that hotel. I am happy to see that detailed measurements of ship cabins, and measurements (only) of the bed and room sizes in hotels can turn out to be useful from time to time. Hope this helps, meow!

Elin - My recommendation is stay away from the Grand. We spent a week there a couple of years ago. It's best feature is it's central location, within walking distance to train stations, shops and other downtown attractions. However, the lobby is small, with stairs to climb to get to the elevators, and the rooms are also European style (in other words small) and the air conditioning is virtually non-existent, as it is in many parts of Norway. (They don't air-condition tour buses in Norway, either, but that's another story.) We also had a problem one night with a very loud wedding party in the conference room area. The sound insulation isn't good either, so it didn't matter whether our window was open or closed. The winners of the Nobel Peace Prize traditionally stay at the Grand for the award ceremony a few blocks away in the Oslo City Hall, but I wouldn't stay there again unless I actually won the Peace Prize.

Hi,
Try the Scandic Edderkoppen - it is right near the main shopping area, Parliament and the Royal Palace. You might also check at the Royal Christiania Hotel - it is close to the train station and the must-sees in Oslo. They are both 4-star hotels.
Oslo is lovely - have a wonderful time!
Best Regards,
Julia

Thanks to all for the recommendations. Juliae, I will look up your picks right away!
Any suggestions for Stockholm? I need one night there and most places are ridiculously expensive! I was looking at the SAS Radisson Strand.
