I think that Kiwi Kruzer posted that the Volendam is in Wellington for a few days, has a visit to Picton, heads to Tauranga, then Auckland next Friday.
She is chartered for the Rugby World Cup.

Christchurch? Really? Is Christchurch able to receive ships and tourists?
It would be wonderful news to be told they have recovered sufficiently for that, but I don't recall reading about it on this site.

The port at Chrisrchurch is still working, mainly for coal and containers. I dont think it or the town at Lyttleton is ready for cruise passengers yet, so it will be interesting to see if she does dock at Lyttleton. Most cruise ships have moved to Akaroa, further around the coast, which is a very picturesque harbour and they tender pax ashore. It is an extra 1 hrs drive to Chch from there if folk want to go.

An interesting aside...re the earthquake and the port....
A great deal of the rubble from the CBD of Christchurch is being used as fill at the port to create a new berthing facility specifically designed for cruise ships and cruise passengers.

I was there in March, shortly after the February earthquake.

It started as a beautiful, sunny day. I was on the first tender over; the ride was smooth. The day turned. By the time I was on the last tender back the seas were angry, indeed. The ride took about 45 minutes. Every time we hit a wave, the water flooded in the front windows. It was dangerous boarding, and leaving, the tender.

The town looked charming! I was sorry there wasn't time to spend a little time there.
Yes, it will indeed be interesting to learn where the Volendam goes.
