Sorry, but I'm not certain about the answer. Can Bev Cards be purchased once onboard? I have read the many posts on pre-buys and tax issues, etc. Thanks in advance!

Sure can. Use one up, then buy another. :D <hic>

Yes. Every bartender, wine steward and every bar steward will be delighted to sell you a beverage card.

The tax thing on this really confuses me, it seems that if you order online for delivery in port, they want to charge taxes. But bar card or otherwise I have never seen tax added in port on either of my two cruises.

Unless you really want to make sure everything is paid for, I would not worry about pre ordering the bev card. It is just as easy to get it on board. In fact was easier for me. I pre ordered the card and it did not show up until almost 48 hours after it was suppose to.

I agree.......

Buy your beverage card on the ship at least 30 minutes after the ship has sailed. Ask the bartender if you are far enough out to not pay the tax and wait until you are far enough from the port.

It takes but a minute for them to set you up with a card and they are more than happy to do so.

We always wait until we are on the ship to buy the beverage card.

And once it is used up -- we buy another one.

On a 14 day cruise -- we use them up pretty quickly.

Yes -- all the cards can be bought once on the ship.

The last time I checked... State sales tax will apply if purchased in a Florida port, or if pre-ordered for delivery to your cabin while in a Florida port. When purchased in or pre-ordered for delivery in a California port, no state sales tax was added. No idea about other states.

Is it permissible to bring along some soda and bottled water? We were on an RCCL a few months ago and it was absolutely prohibited. They were not releasing luggage when they scanned and found liquid items in suitcases until the owner reported to security and the items were confiscated without exception. Pretty strict!

HAL permits guests to bring water, soda and wine/champagne aboard. You can bring it on from embarkation port as well as from ports along the way.

Yo may put it in your carryon, your checked luggage and I've even read here where some people put a luggage tag on a case and send it aboard with the stevedores.

We always take along some wine & bottled water + sometimes restock in various ports. Celebrity provides a pitcher of fresh, purified water in our cabin but don't like their tap water (or HAL's). Celebrity (owned by RCCL) only allows 2 bottles of wine to be carried on per cabin.

We have friends who had RCCL do exactly as you mentioned. They had wine in 1 piece of luggage & water in another. Somehow the one with wine got through but their water was confiscated!

Thanks to HAL for allowing this indulgence.

Let's hope there isn't so much excess they take away the privilege. When I hear of folks lugging cases, I think to myself,,,,,, 'How long before HAL says, No more!' Moderation is probably a good approach, as in most things.

Completely agree! My wife has a half paralyzed throat and Carbonated soda helps her swallow. We try to bring a few bottles along. Conversely, I have stood in check-in lines and witnessed huge ice chests loaded with cases of coke (sodas) being lugged and scooted along. Albeit it was Carnival and RCCL and they have since stopped the practice.

HAL used to allow liquor and beer but they put a stop to it. I well remember standing in the boarding line and people would have cases of beer they were dragging aboard. They banged into people, had cases drop off the top of their pile and made a general nuisance of themselves. It was obvious to anyone watching it was a matter of time until HAL put a stop to it....... and they did.

A few poorly mannered over indulgers ruined it for the many who were more reasonable and responsible people. It only takes a few to ruin it for many.

KrazyKruizers indicated on another thread that state sales tax would be added in Washington and New York (for any cruises embarking from Seattle and New York City)! :(

I think tax might also be added for cruises sailing out of Boston if the beverage card is purchased while still in port.
